Death metal veterans MORBID ANGEL have recruited Scott Fuller (ANNIHILATED) to play drums on their new album. The disc is currently being recorded at Mana Recording in St. Petersburg, Florida with producer — and former MORBID ANGEL guitarist — Erik Rutan for a mid-2017 release via UDR Music.

MORBID ANGEL guitarist Trey Azagthoth (pictured) wrote on Facebook: “We have all the drums recorded for the new record, and will soon start on the guitars, vocals and bass.

“It has been awesome working with Erik Rutan and Mana Studios.

“We have a really cool collection of new material. There are also lots of touring plans for this new year so we hope to see you all on the road!!!!”

Azagthoth announced in June 2015 that MORBID ANGEL had reunited with vocalist/bassist Steve Tucker and that they were working on material for the band’s next record

MORBID ANGEL has yet to announce a replacement for Norwegian guitarist Destructhor (a.k.a. Thor Anders Myhren), who left the band a year and a half ago.

Asked in a 2015 interview with Loudwire if he would consider rejoining MORBID ANGEL, Rutan said: “I never say to never to anything that has to do with two of the most important bands in my career that I love so much. If I could clone myself, I would still be in MORBID ANGEL! I would have loved to have released more RIPPING CORPSE albums back in the day as well. You just never know what might happen someday. I never close the door on any opportunities that may present themselves.”

Former MORBID ANGEL frontman David Vincent recently joined forces with several other musicians — including ex-MORBID ANGEL drummer Tim Yeung (drums) — to perform classic MORBID ANGEL songs under the I AM MORBID banner.

The new band, which is completed by guitarists Bill Hudson (CIRCLE II CIRCLE, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA) and Ira Black (METAL CHURCH, LIZZY BORDEN), will play material from MORBID ANGEL‘s “Altars Of Madness” (1989), “Blessed Are The Sick” (1991), “Covenant” (1993) and “Domination” (1995) albums. Two shows have already been scheduled in Brazil next spring: March 24 in Belo Horizonte and March 25 in São Paulo. Additional dates will be announced soon.

MORBID ANGEL‘s  2011 album, AVANT-GARDE METAL CLASSIC “Illud Divinum Insanus”, marked the group’s first CD to feature Vincent since “Domination”.
