KICK ASS — Heavier & Faster With Better Riffs

…………..for years our PROFILE PICTURE was Jinx Dawson, but now-a-days, our PROFILE photo is Johanna Andersson  (Friday the 13th, July 13th 2018. the news of that fact happened, on July 15th, 2018—editor) ……..

The main reads here are way beyond obvious here.
Metal Maidens * Sonic Cathedral * Snakepit Heavy Metal France * Occult Rock webZine * Avant-Garde webZine *Via Omega * Sounds of Death , Anvil Death Metal Magazine * Dead on Arrival Death Metal Magazine * All Heavy Metal Fanzines August 1st, 1981 to October 31st, 2003, i never read webZines, since they lack the knowledge of the 10 publications, i mentioned earlier.  I still read fanzines espcially to this day, since the internet metal webZines are poorly written, Since this publication is a Gothic Metal, Avant-Garde Metal, Death Metal-age publication, those styles are our absolute favorites, but we cover any band no matter the genre, as longs as the musicanship is top-notch.
“Avant-garde” is the French term for “advance guard” or “vanguard”. It refers to people who venture into the unknown. Sometimes they find the shining shores of the future there, the visions and ideas of tomorrow. Sometimes they get lost in the forests of insanity, in the whirls of chaos and confusion. But it’s always new worlds that they discover. Sometimes the avant-garde of today will become the mainstream of tomorrow. But most avant-garde will always remain absurd and strange to the masses.
This website is dedicated to the pioneers of metal, to those bands and musicians who incorporate new and innovative elements into metal, who break conventions, tear down walls, violate borders. They build new worlds. They surprise.
More than for any other term in metal, the characteristics of avant-garde metal are hard to specify. What’s fresh, innovative, new, surprising? The answer to this question lies in the eye of the beholder.
Some say avant-garde metal is the art of creating deep and strange atmospheres by experimenting with new instruments and sounds, strange vocals, unconventional song structures, rhythms and harmonies, unusual lyrics or uncommon artwork. Others describe avant-garde metal as progressive, psychedelic, surrealistic, phantasmagoric, expressionistic, dissonant or extravagant interpretations of extreme metal. But what do such words really mean? We don’t care, because…
…DEFINITION IS THE DEATH OF INDIVIDUALITY!
This website was created to provide a home for all those metal bands that try out new things and create their own, individual paths. It was created for everybody who is bored with the petrified spiderwebs of cliché, commerce and convention.
Anyway, avant-garde metal is freestyle. We don’t want to judge whether a band or an album is avant-garde or not. All artists who claim to be avant-garde will be featured here. Some of them might seem like ordinary, conventional metal to you. About some others you may think that they are not metal at all anymore, that they are something completely different. We won’t participate in such controversies about categorization. Decide for yourself if a band inspires you or not.” the above quote is from Avant-garde webzine and that applies here !!!

Jinx Dawson BIO from the Jinx Dawson official facebook presence.

Official Jinx Dawson page~Irreverent, erotic, fiendish Left Hand Path Ceremonial Magickian & Artist…Lead Singer & creator of The Coven & the 1st to do the “Sign of the Horns” in rock \m/.
O reader of these words, if thou comest hither to this page, most likely thou knowest me. However, in the event that thou knowest me not, I shall relate unto thee some of my past. Many decades ago, I became the first rock musick performer to come forward openly as a Left Hand Path High Priestess and Ceremonial Mage. And I was the first to reveal secrets long concealed in esoteric circles (e.g. the horned hand gesture known as “The Sign of the Horns”).I bear the Sign of the Left Hand Path, an inverted pentacle, in the natural folds of my left palm. I was born into a very long lineage of Occult Adepts and Practitioners of the Ancient Arts. Some of them were members of the U.A.O.D. (United Ancient Order of Druids). Others were members of the Rosicrucian group Ordo Aureæ et Rosæ Crucis (Order of the Golden and Rosy Cross).I am of the Mayflower Society, a direct descendant of John Howland, 13th signator to the Mayflower Compact. Members of my family were also active in Freemasonry. My father was a 33 degree Scottish Rite Mason, and my grandfather was High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons. So I am steeped in American illuminati. My claims are genuine and can be easily researched on the internet and verified.
Lucifer  Founded on June 13, 2014
Lucifer BIO

Lucifer is a multinational Heavy Rock band from Stockholm. Founded in 2014 in Berlin by The Oath front woman Johanna Sadonis, the group first consisted of Cathedral, Angel Witch and Ladytron members. The first 7” Single ‘Anubis’ and debut album ‘Lucifer I’, penned by Sadonis and Cathedral’s Garry Jennings and released by British label Rise Above Records, brought Lucifer international recognition. The band completed their line-up with Swede Robin Tidebrink from the band Saturn on second lead guitar. Lucifer has been touring the world including Europe, USA, Canada and Japan.

Lucifer’s is defined by their very heavy 1970s Hard Rock sound spiced with a good dose of Proto Heavy Metal and Doom Rock. Main influences are groups such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Blue Öyster Cult, Lucifer’s Friend, Steppenwolf, 70’s Heart and Fleetwood Mac.

With a shift of constellation within the band in 2016 and Johanna Sadonis’ move from Berlin to Stockholm, Lucifer were ready for chapter two. In Nicke Andersson, notable for his groups The Hellacopters, Entombed, Imperial State Electric, Death Breath among others, Sadonis found a new renowned writing partner. Together they wrote Lucifer’s second album ‘Lucifer II’ and produced it at Nicke’s studio The Honk Palace in Stockholm in the summer of 2017. The album was mixed by Swedish producer Ola Ersfjord at Cuervo Recording Services in Madrid.

With the critically acclaimed release of their long awaited second album ‘Lucifer II’ on Century Media on July 6th 2018 and the videos for their new singles ‘California Son’ and ‘Dreamer’, Lucifer is facing a new grand chapter. The album immediately jolted into the Swedish, German, British and American charts and received outstanding worldwide attention.

This summer Lucifer already play a number of international festivals like Psycho Las Vegas, Hellfest, Desertfest and the long standing German cult TV program Rockapalast to name but a few. This fall Lucifer is set to embark on a European tour and are planning to return to Japan again this winter. With freshly recruited lead guitar players Martin Nordin and Linus Björklund, and the Austrian Alexander Mayr on bass, the band is ready to climb Mount Olympus of Rock.

THE SECOND COMING STARTS NOW.

Lucifer Line-Up:
Johanna Sadonis (vocals)
Nicke Andersson (drums)
Linus Björklund (guitar)
Martin Nordin (guitar)
Alexander Mayr (bass)
Robin Tidebrink (guitar)

JESS AND THE ANCIENT ONES BIO

Jess and the Ancient Ones is a psychedelic rock band from Kuopio, Finland. The group was formed back in 2010 with the vocal talent Jess as their front woman. JATAO draws inspiration from pretty much everything that lies within the musical fields and beyond. Imagination is never to be censored when writing music, and one could say that’s the lifeblood of all art.

Starting out with a strong NWOBHM influence, as heard on their self-titled debut back in 2012, the band has slowly grown towards their own true identity. Nowadays one can find traces of surf, blues, folk, jazz, rock, and loads more in their exciting and smoky sound.

Jess and the Ancient Ones are signed to Svart Records, who are known as the home of today’s wild underground with a vast amount of modern cult releases under their wings.

Expect the unexpected, and feed your minds.

Witchcross are a long running classic doom metal band from the Chicago area that have been putting on infamously macabre Horror Doom Metal shows for two decades, and whom lead singer Count William Jannusch, also known from another horror metal band, Ravensthorn, originated from and once again is focused more than ever on. Currently Witchcross have released the very Horror and Occult based “Crypt of the Undead” album(2015), but their history is very fascinating.

Nocturnal Doom was a band formed by lead vocalist/song writer Count William Jannusch in 1987, at the age of fifteen. The line-up changed several times before lead guitarist Dereck Anderson joined and the band recorded the “Shades Of Despair” album in 1991 with Dan Lamb-drums, and Gary Oakley-bass. After gigging all over Chicago and Indiana, playing all age metal clubs and roller rinks, the band developed a strong following. Soon problems with the line-up began again, and Dereck and Bill decided to hire a new drummer and bassist.

Soon after, the band recruited drummer Gary Pedersoli and bassist Roger Massey in the Summer of 1992, and the band changed their name to Witchcross. By the end of the year, they had a whole albums’ worth of original material and were also playing a catalogue of Ozzy era Black Sabbath classics live too.

In 1993, Witchcross recorded their debut self titled album in a local college recording studio and heavily released it on professionally printed cassettes and later cds. Then heavy live concert gigging began again.

Over the years the band continued to do shows all over the Chicago,IL. and Indiana area. Band members also split into other band projects over the years, while still regrouping to perform with Witchcross. Count William Jannusch did Ravensthorn(who went on to release three albums..”House Of The Damned”(2002-now currently re-released as a remastered edition cd-2015), “Hauntings And Possessions”(2004-followed by a four day stay overseas for a two date festival concert performance in Germany in 2005), and “Horrors Of The Black Mass”(2012) ) and also in the years before that, Shadowlord(playing and recording regularly throughout the middle nineteen nineties, releasing a full album self titled cd in 2000). Dereck did The Devil Inside and they released a very bluesy cd album. Witchcross always reunited and performed more concerts, as well as writing a myriad of new original material, and performing as a Black Sabbath tribute band at many other shows.

By 2008, Witchcross decided to record another album that would be entitled “Innocence And Evil”, and released it professionally on cd, self financed, and distributed through underground distros and local record stores. Many more live concert performances continued on a regular basis, though also once again the band began focusing more on other band projects and kinda slowed down, Count William once again drifted further into Ravensthorn, with the band playing out a lot more and becoming immersed in the band’s “Horrors Of The Black Mass” album project and promotional live concert shows that went on for a few years at several studios before being released in 2012, though during this time Witchcross was still playing out live on a regular basis between Ravensthorn(heavy metal band) shows…

When Witchcross began the recording for 2014’s “Crypt Of the Undead” album at Chicago’s The Dead Room Studios with engineer producers Joe Duhr and Chad Elliott, and final mastering done by Sasch Machyne (of Mighty Monster Records-Germany). They wanted to properly capture the band’s live sound, and they finally did. For once the band was 100% focused and also captured in a recording properly, and wickedly in the right way..

Currently, in 2015, Witchcross has released a very heavy and Occult based third album of wickedly produced Horror Doom Metal Musick, working together stronger than ever, a 13 song album, called “Crypt Of The Undead” on Germany’s Metalizer/Battle Cry Records, and also performing many new concert shows all over the place. Another very heavy new Witchcross record will be in the works at the end of 2015 too!!!

THIS IS A HEAVY METAL 1ST THAT A HEAVY METAL BAND, Walk In Darkness WILL HAVE TOP 100 ALBUMS OF ALL-TIME back to back but EXACTLY just 1 year apart… February 17th 2017  & February 17th 2018….so the upcoming future album of Walk In Darkness will be the most anticipated album of the next couple of years…..!!!

POR: ANDREIA VIDAL – HINTF WEBZINE

Thank you so much for your time answering our questions! How did the concept for this project begin? When did it actually start?

The project is quite recent, everything began in 2015 with the aim of applying new compositive methods in the gothic and metal genre. In a more general sense, it is a new kind of musical communication where we could actually offer an individual, atypical musical combination.

Who are the members of Walk in Darkness? How did you meet?

Our era is full of decadence where appearence matters most; therefore, every human being is forced to wear a mask. Even while showing their face, they are actually wearing a mask to hide their true feelings. Nowadays, almost no one can live without a mask; no one reveals their true self. Most of the time
the real person is invisible, their egoism hidden by its own mask.
So, mankind is an endless parade of false masks, faithful followers of appearance and rules.
For ‘Walk In Darkness’, the lack of a face is a simplification because it is a way to get rid of the mask, allowing one to consider all men alike because of their same fate.
The members of ‘Walk in Darkness’ met up and shared the project, but as individuals they can change because of musical requirements. All that remains the same is the musical style, alongside the philosophy behind the band.
Basically, the project doesn’t concern the musicians but the music itself.
In the end, ‘Walk in Darkness’ are not masked musicians, they have no need of a mask, because they don’t have a face!

How can you describe your sound?

We can insert our music in the gothic and metal genre because of the distorted textures which define the context, and the dark dramatic background. But, our music also has an epic shade by reason of the orchestral and symphonic elements suited to our lyrics, often based on heroic themes.
The melodic lines are strong and defined; at the same time they are delicate and perceptive thanks to the particular vocal ability of Nicoletta Rosellini (the voice of the band). She is also the face of the band, an element of connection with the world outside.

Does your music have a theme? From where do you get inspiration?

The lyrics of ‘Walk in Darkness’ are about the human being in a universal sense; the themes are sometimes about modernity, sometimes of an epical and mythological nature, but they always speak about consciousness, human condition, and its fate.
The lyrics are really important in our project because they are not only a message that compliments the music, but are also unified with the music in a unique emotional package.

How does the creative process work? Do you all give ideas and than test them in studio?

The songs are usually written starting from a guitar or key line before being developed in an atypical way. These elements are used by ‘Walk in Darkness’ in a visionary, instinctive and disordered manner to compose and record our music. We are not adhering to classical methods of writing and recording music; which brings us to the point where the percussion section is at the end of the process. This rhythmically observes the various phases of the musical story, adding more emotional force to the composition.

You are planning an album, do you have an idea when it will be released?

You can expect a release in the early months of 2017.

Finally we congratulate you for your music, wish you the best, and thank you for your time!
Would you like to leave some words to your Portuguese fans? Where can they listen to your music?

At present, some of our music and videos are available on our YouTube site. As soon as the complete album is registered, we’ll share all the information about this on our website and Facebook pages.
We’d like to invite all of our Portugese fans (and everyone who shares our philosophy) to keep following the band, because we still have a lot of surprises to reveal!
We will try to arrange a European tour, and we hope to come to Portugal. Our music is provocative, as are the group’s live performances.

Thanks for your attention!

Interview with Nicoletta Rosellini

Kalidia & Walk in Darkness

In between the newest album from Walk in Darkness (‘Welcome to the New World’) and the upcoming release from Kalidia, Andrea decided to ask singer Nicoletta Rosellini a few questions about these two bands, an indiegogo campaign she organized, her appearances as a guest singer and as well as other things. Nicoletta was kind enough to oblige Lyrical Spell Magazine with the answers.

When did you first started singing?

‘’I used to take piano lessons when I was a child and I loved to sing along. I started to sing since I was able to speak, I think 🙂 I joined my first rock band as singer in 2007!’’

Do you have any formal training?

‘’I started my career as a singer without any training and I think this can be heard in my early works. I started to take singing lessons in 2015 with an incredible teacher who was able to turn me into a decent singer…but I think you never stop learning and improving yourself, so I’m still working a lot on my voice.’’

What band(s) / artist(s) have inspired you to become a musician?

‘’I’m a huge power metal fan since I was a teenager. I grew up listening to bands like Rhapsody, Sonata Arctica, Kamelot, Helloween, Masterplan and so on. I remember I used to watch a lot of their live-DVDs (before I was able to go to any concerts!) and I was dreaming of being on that stage one day.’’

Kalidia is your first band. What can you tell me about the band’s history?

‘’The band was born 2010 and after a couple of years we were discovered by producer Alessio Lucatti who took us in his studio where we recorded first our demo-EP ‘Dance of the Four Winds’ (2012) and then our full-length ‘Lies’ Device’ (2014). During the following years we played extensively all around Italy, Germany and UK, sharing the stage with incredible bands and learning a lot. Since 2016 we are working with a new producer, Lars Rettkowtiz (Freedom Call).’’

I saw on Facebook that Kalidia will release new music this year. What can fans expect from the upcoming album?

‘’The new album is a big step forward – modern sound, bombastic arrangements but the same Kalidia songwriting quality. You can expect 12 new tracks of catchy melodic power metal with all of our main influences – fast songs, atmospheric mid-tempos and an intense piano ballad! Currently, the album is being mastered, we hope to give you more details really soon!’’

Are there any tour dates for 2018?

‘’We have few Italian shows confirmed for now (details can be found on our social pages!), we’ll surely start to tour more after the release of the new album.’’

You already recorded two albums with Walk in Darkness. How did you become part of this band?

‘’I got in touch with Walk in Darkness in 2015, they knew me for my work with Kalidia and we started a collaboration for the first 2 songs (‘Last Siren’, ‘Carthage’) – after the success of those first songs we decided to make our collaboration permanent.’’

How does it feel to be the face and the voice of such a mysterious band?

‘’Well, that’s a good question – as the band would say, I am the connection between them and the rest of the world – the carrier of their message. And it’s a deep message about the human condition – it is an important role to be the face of such a band.’’

On both albums you have collaborated with Emiliano Pasquinelli and I really enjoy his growls. Is he part of the line-up now?

‘’Not a full-time member, but Emiliano is a close friend of the band and will surely provide more growls on our next works!’’

What is the theme of “Welcome to the New World”?

‘’”Welcome to the New World” is mainly focused on describing the human condition. It is a world without poetry nor seasons, regulated only by the rhythms of the commercial markets. Walk in Darkness, move on the edge of the ”abyss”, in the shadow of things, between the rain and the wind that blows through the collapsed walls of ancient buildings that still testify to the heroism, poetry and grandeur of the past in antithesis to modernity populated by insignificant men.’’

Is Walk in Darkness a studio project or will we see the band on stage?

‘’Mainly a studio project but we are discussing about the possibility of doing a full “show” including music, poetry, philosophy, visual elements, so…. never say never!’’

How involved are you in the creative process? Are you more involved in Kalidia than in Walk in Darkness?

‘’More involved in Kalidia – I usually take care of all the vocal lines and lyrics, while in Walk in Darkness, the mastermind Shaman has already everything clear in his mind.’’

Last year you were on stage with Overtures during Metal Days. How did that collaboration happen?

‘’I met Overtures’ singer Michele while Kalidia was touring with his other band (Kaledon) – he was looking for backing vocalists to promote their new album. It was a wonderful experience lasted 2 years – I was able to play on incredible festival and gigs, including Metal Days, Gods of Metal and SpazioRock Festival. It was a great collaboration and I’ve learned a lot from it!’’

This year in March, you played with Aevum. Were you excited about that?

‘’That’s quite interesting! Their music is really challenging – I will go from rock to opera-like vocals. Expect the unexpected! I will be on stage with them for only 2 shows of their Euro tour with Orphaned Land – Koln on 06.03 and Berlin on 07.03. ‘’

Last year you did an indiegogo campaign for photographer Luna la Chimia. Are you pleased with the results?

‘’I’m very thankful for the help received. Luna is Kalidia’s photographer and also a close friend of mine; we were together when someone stole her backpack, going home after a brilliant weekend where we took incredible pictures (forever gone…). I was really happy when lots of my music colleagues decided to help me with the crowdfunding. But I was even more happy when my followers decided to help Luna backing the campaign. That meant a lot to me, I will never forget! We managed to get a new body camera for her, so she’s now back behind the lenses! ‘‘’

I saw you were performing with Rhapsody. How was it to meet and sing with Fabio Lione?

‘’Well, I met Fabio 8 or 9 years ago and we shared the stage so many times in these past years. I was really honored when he asked me to join them for a song (‘Symphony of Enchanted Lands’) in the Italian leg of their farewell tour, since Rhapsody is one of those bands who influenced me a lot. He’s truly one of the best singers out there and I got a little bit emotional the first time I went up on stage with him and the band. It was an unforgettable experience, a dream came true.’’

When you are not doing music, you are studying veterinary medicine. How hard is it to balance these two aspects of your life?

‘’Really hard, but I think I’m doing quite well. Not too long until I will finish my studies…I’m trying to stick to both careers for now!

Thanks for this interview!’’

A big thank you from my part as well to Nicoletta Rosellini for taking the time to do this interview with Lyrical Spell Magazine! Check out both Kalidia and Walk in Darkness, and if you like what you hear, support them by buying their music.

The day was August 22nd, 1995 and I was working as a concert promoter in the United States, and the new The Gathering CD at the time was entitled “Mandylion” featuring a new sound, new configuration. And a re-birth of a music genere.

It was a day no fan of World-Class Music featuring A World-Class Vocalist will ever forget. I was playing this timeless masterpiece @ total concert levels. You know when the windows rattle but do not shatter. My mom who was a Classical Singer in the 1960’s and 1970’s, stopped by, and I was getting ready for work, in the band booking office, so I had to wear a business suit, and my mom stopped by and turned down the stero, and asked. “Who is that? I wish I could sing like that”. Anneke van Giersbergen when my mom thinks you’re a good singer, that is the highest compliment one could ever receive in life. During a certain time frame in music 1993-2003 Atomospheric Music was very popular.

There were 4 Vocalist that dominated my CD player even to this day.

The above 3 and I knew this back in the early to mid 1990’s would join forces in a SUPER GROUP sometime in the future

thesirenskickassmetalworldclassvocalist98956654a12232321

And it happened sometime in 2013 or so I believe.

And the 4 of course Anja Natasha Lindløv

anjanatashalindlov_worldclassvocalist_987578

January 29th, 2001 was one of the best days in my life as a music fan, January 29th, 2001 it was cold as all could be, I  called first to my local record shoppe? “Is the New Dismal Euphony in” it was I put in on hold where they save it for you. I got to the record shoppe, and I got the last copy, so I knew this CD would be a classic like the predecessor. So I still had a lot of money for my CD binge, I just got a workers tax rebate, so I always spent half of this money on culture books, movies, music and the other half goes in a Christmas Savings. And the record shoppe across town had another copy of Dismal Euphony’s “Python Zero”. So at the time I had every World-Wide Pressing of this all-time Masterpiece. Not only was this one of the greatest albums of all-time. But I noticed a very important distinction. Anja Natasha Lindløv was the very first human being to be a World-Class Vocalist in 2 centuries.

I cover music as a specialized press of melodic music which features bands with male and female vocalist in the same band, or bands with female vocalist. Because in the early 1980’s using common sense and extensive training as a vocalist myself, as a classical musician a vocalist, myself. I know females add 3 ranges to music not found in male singers. And my favorite female vocalist are Contralto’s. And I have yet to confirm this with a College Professor. But I believe Anja Natasha circa 1999-2001 was a Contralto. If I am wrong on this fact, I will change my statement. But any how, one thing I know for certain as a music fan. Anja Natasha Lindløv is a 1 in a 100 billion, and no other singer has her timbre’, and her melody’s are all her own. A master at song-writing in terms of harmonies and melodies.

Those who were music fans from this era will distinctly remember this in 2001 when journalist had to make our top 10 and top 100 albums of 2001. Dismal Euphony “Python Zero” won a top 10 album of the year honor in 2001 and Anja Natasha Lindløv was name our Person of the year in 2001. Which we honor the Greatest World-Class Vocalist of that year. Every Friday Night where I work at now, we have staff meetings, talking about what albums were going to buy, and bands were going to cover, then after all that is done. We do karaoke, and the PASSWORD to get in is LYRICS album Dismal Euphony “Python Zero”. We always get pizza with double everything, and but tons of beer on ice the good stuff, and karaoke insanity, until 7:59 AM Saturday Morning.

Dismal Euphony was already a legendary band, during the Keltziva-era of Dismal Euphony.

But when the Anja Natasha – era of Dismal Euphony happened, the band became a million times more talented, more original, more melodic, and made music, of the highest order of art, supreme avant-garde gothic metal, that will survive the test of time.

In March 1999…Anja Natasha first appeared on a top 500 album, for the 20th Century. For the year 1999 with the timeless classic “ALL LITTLE DEVILS”.

Sure their was the best VHS tape released the brilliant Lady Ablaze, which also was released as a EP, in 2000..!!!!!

In January 29th, 2001 for the year 2001, I rate the album “Python Zero” as a top 10 album for that year. So it is a top 100, top 500 album for the 21st century.

Since that era. The 21st century; received it first real and true timeless, masterpiece, classic, essential album “Python Zeron” on its 29th day in 2001.

With the mind-blowing and jaw dropping “Python Zero” where Anja Natasha is a real superstar and world-class vocalist on “Python Zero”.

Anja Natasha, Really lights that LP up, with tons of charisma and talent and originality. Anja Natasha possess one of the most original timbres in all of music, not just rock music, all of music.

There is no band who released a classic album circa 1980-1999, who predates, the classic “Python Zero” which was only 29 days in. For the new century.

Sure your thinking. What about Tristania with “World of Glass” ..that was in late September, 2001, so for this historic first it is Anja Natasha.

Kristin Fjellseth has a top rated albums with KICK*ASS*METAL.

But the 2001 Crest of darkness album. was actually released in November 2000. And the Russian Jewel Case Version. Has a 2001 released date, but that happened, the Russian Jewel case re-edition, happened way after Python Zero.

Kristin Fjellseth time again. She has a heavy metal artist, during this time, circa 1999-2001 and a did TRUE NORWEGIAN SOFT ROCK, with Pale Forest. To keep thinking of this subject matter, but this time with Pale Forest as a dark pop band. But everyone knows “Exit Mould” has a July, 31, 2001 released date.

Sure whoa. Your thinking off the top of your head, Opeth’s qualifies right , but “Black Water Park”, was released in March 2001.

Sigh could make the claim with their classic 2001 album “Imaginary Sonicscapes”, but that was released in July 2001.

So far the Anja Natasha – era Dismal Euphony. Is still the first, to perform this feat.

Some bands have classics in the 20th Century and nothing in the 21 st century. and some bands have there first real classic album starting in 2001 and no classic albums in the 20th century.

How cool is that to have a favorite vocalist, who has left an indelible mark on the 20th and 21st century for the little picture, and for the big picture. The Encyclopedia sized history books of the second and third millennium…!!! Oh there she is, Anja Natasha in all four books.

Our hero Anja Natasha. On May 20th, 2008, the Dismal Euphony Anja Natasaha-era was re-edition by Metal Mind Poland. And when I rate that album. It will be rated as a best re editon of all time, a top 100 re edition of all time, easily.

Now the band Dismal Euphony has 4 Essential purchases, for the decade called 2000. Lady Ablaze, Lady Ablaze VHS, Python Zero, “All Little Devils/ Python Zero” double disc on GOLD DISC, released on May 20th, 2008, via Metal Mind Productions Poland.

Long Live Anja Natasha

Ha, you were partying like it was 1999, 2000, and 2001…and you had nostalgia for the good old days, and have a favorite vocalist Anja Natasha, and thinking whoa, what ever happened to….and you do a goggle search and BAM, whoa….Anja Natasha is alive and well…and just like during the golden era of Norwegian Gothic Rock and Gothic Metal 1993-2003…Anja Natasha is a DIVA…which means a distinguished (aka WORLD CLASS) female singer.

Anja Natasha-era Dismal Euphony is one of the reasons, i founded KICK*ASS*METAL…

This press photo of the Anja Natasha -era of Dismal Euphony hangs in my music library…!!!

Dismal Euphony were already a legendary band when Keltziva was the female vocalist…but with the addition of Anja Natasha as the new vocalist, in 1999. Gothic Rock / Gothic Metal, fans ended up with 4 Anja Natasha-era releases that are total “must haves”.

So i made this video compilation, because it is the album I have been waiting for for around a dozen years now. I would love to see the idea of this tribute page pressed onto a DVD one day…!!!

ALL LITTLE DEVILS 100 out of 100…FULLSCORE.. !!

This is not a record review…since they are one of the Greatest Bands off all time. It is a write up word for word of the essay found in Panel 2 of a 6 panel CD, of a 2 DISC set…The Author Is Unknown to me. But his write up is pure genius.

In the history of gothic metal not man groups managed to deliver such skillful combination of genres as Dismal Euphony from Stavanger, Norway.

There unique mixture of death and black metal, pop, psychedelic and classical motives brought a collection of unforgettable recordings, taking the Gothenburg sound to a whole new level.

This double re-release of “ALL LITTLE DEVILS” and “PYTHON ZERO” introduces two of the band’s finest works, containing songs that will take you all the way into the heart of darkness…

The history of Dismal Euphony dates back to 1992, when bassist Ole K. Helgesen and drumme Kristoffer Void Austrheim decided to join forces and form a band together.

Soon Under the moniker Headless Children they were playing cover versions of songs by Kreator and Slayer.

That lasted until a year later, when singer Erik Borgen and guitarist Kenneth Bergsagel were added to the line-up.

The band changed there name to Carnal Tomb and began working on their own material.

In the meantime Erik Borgen decided to quite the band and the vocal duties were passed on to Helgesen, which was soon backed by female vocalist Lin Achre Tveit (Keltiziva) .

Adding keyboardist Elin Overskott completed the final line-up of the groupd which ultimately resurfaced in 1995 bearing the name Dismal Euphony.

In the same year the group recorded and self-released the demo “Spellbound”

The release caught the attention of Napalm Records and after a three=song self=titled EP, Dismal Euphony recorded their debut LP entitled “Soria Moria Slott.

This material contained mostly pure black metal and gothic ideas, however the follow-up album “Autumn Leaves: The Rebellion of Tides” 1997 showcased some unique variety of styles, taking the bands music in a whole new direction.

The Group recorded a 5 track EP called “Lady Ablaze” which featured new female vocalist Anja Natasha.

Surprisingly, the EP was not released until the year 2000.

In 1999 Dismal Euphony signed a deal with Nuclear Blast and released there third LP “All Little Devils”.

From the very first note it was clear that with this album the group reached the peaks of creativity.

The brilliantly composed material offered a great variety of inspirations, all sustained in the enchanting gothic mood.

The vocal combination of female and male voices gave a very impressive result, best hear in truly outstanding songs such as “Day of Sodom”, “Lunatic”, and “Pyscho Path”.

Many critics compared “All Little Devils”, with early The Gathering, Lacuna Coil and Nightwish, underlining, however, that Dismal Euphony managed to establish a style of their own.

The album is closed with a gentle orchestral track called “Dead Words”, where the subtle piano tones drag the listenre deep into the silent darkness…

The follow-up to “All Little Devils” was released in 2001 and marked another step in the band’s evolution.

“Python Zero” featured a great amount of psychedelic and electronica motives added to the music.

They were still delivering some heavy tunes (such as “Plasma Pool”, “Python Zero”, “Critical Mass” and “Zentinel”), but in the same time weren’t afraid of avant-garde experimentation (Magma” Birth Reverse” “Needle”.)

The resulted in one of the most fascinating goth/ metal hybrids ever created.

“Python Zero” is still considered some of the finest gothic songs in the history of the genre.

Unfortunately, Dismal Euphony disbanded after releasing their masterpiece.

All the group’s members decided to part with the music industry, while drummer Kristoffer Void Austheim became a session musician for the Norwegian black metal band Nettlecarier.

In 2004 the group syffered a “post-mortem” tragedy, as keyboardist Elin Overskott was found dead from a heroin overdose.

“All little Devils” and “Python Zero” remained Dismal Euphony’s most valuable creations, offering top quality gothich metal which will suit even the most demanding musical connoisseur.

When looking through the heavy metal hall of fame, aka your personal library, the one I am talking about is the 33,000 square feet library with the top 100 to top 700 classical/ metal/gothic/avant-garde albums of all-time.

If you arrange them by importance in chronology, this is a top 10 most important heavy metal album, in the top 100 heavy metal albums of all-time.

1980s’ metal starts of with the first classic

Rush “Permanent Waves ” unleashed on planet metal on January lst, 1980

Then the next most important one after that is Tygers of Pan Tang “Wild Cat”

This list is the beginning of the top 100 heavy metal albums of all-time from January 1st, 1980 to October 31st, 1983 with a couple of November outliers. The albums which are top 100 albums but in the second part of that list are not on this list, check elsewhere on these pages. I always tell the KICK ASS METAL readers I meet in public, who recognize me at concerts, around town or at the record shoppe, build your record collection backwards, since it is November 21st, 2017 start with the 2017 albums of the year list first. Or if you get the inspiration you can start from underground year zero day one. So I have seen this album get strange and bizarre treatment from the revisionist metal armada, aka the publications NOW who never had a print edition during the golden age of heavy metal. August 1st 1981 to October 31st 1986. Keep in mind the original top 100 list for this publication the list being first made in 1983 and updated 1984/1985/1986/1987/1988……til 1997, the people who worked on that were the top 700 heavy metal fans world-wide, and if you were not around then, you obviously are not really allowed/eligible to speak on this subject really, and of course, you can never get a job here, and you imput hurts the actual heavy metal genre, more than all the eBay scams that go on at METAL ARCHIVES…..so I do read most serious heavy metal publications, but if you have some revisionist bent…then it is just entertainment and not actual heavy metal journalism. The secret to this album, is that Kate De Lombaert is 110% percent more authentic than all the so-called “top 100” albums listed as false inclusions in the revisionist press. And this album is more heavier than all of the over-rated “underground classics” the over-rated ones from the era, that has its nostalgia press that is only nostalgia and revisionism, the 1992-1994-era, that the heavy metal community never took serious in the first place. Most genres take 9 years to go off the rails, but that wave only lasted two years….!! Anyhow it is 2017 and this album spirit is championed all over the 2017 TOP 100 HEAVY METAL ALBUMS, list. Again this is THE GOLD STANDARD ALBUM WHICH YOU ARE JUDEGED AGAINST, and your ignorance is bliss, and puts you in the 15%-tile range, at the #17,555 ranking out of 117,000 artist who are covered in the actual heavy metal press. Myself I only can purchase 2,000 albums a year, and the bands give me another 1,000 to cover, but I collect classical/avant-garde/gothic/metal evenly, so your raking of #17,555 is no where near my 700 to 100 heavy metal albums I can purchase every year…..so learn the gold standard and become the new gold standard, or you can just be over-rated in the revisionist press, and your stuff end up in second hand stores, where those stores will have to give them to delete bin outlets…..!!!! Will have to revisit this albums soon !!!!!! This album needs to be repressed every year in heavy metal !!!!

Death metal GODS AND HEAVY METAL LEGENDS MORBID ANGEL will UNLEASH upon planet metal their new album, “Kingdoms Disdained”, on December 1 via UDR Music. Recorded at Mana Recording in St. Petersburg, Florida with producer — and former MORBID ANGEL guitarist — Erik Rutan, the LP marks the band’s first release with drummer Scott Fuller (ANNIHILATED, ex-ABYSMAL DAWN) who joined MORBID ANGEL last year following the departure of Tim Yeung. It is also be MORBID ANGEL’s first album to feature bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker since 2003’s “Heretic”.

“Kingdoms Disdained” will include the song “Warped”, which MORBID ANGEL performed live on its recent U.S. tour.

Tucker, who is back for his third spell with the group, told “The Metal Magdalene With Jet” show about MORBID ANGEL’s approach on the upcoming album: “It was really just about writing music — it was just about writing a MORBID ANGEL album. Nobody said, ‘Hey, we wanna go in this direction,’ nobody said anything. I mean, there’s obvious things there. I’ve said it before — I’m a death metal guy, so, for me, it’s gonna be a death metal album; if I’m on it, it’s death metal. So it was just about making a MORBID ANGEL album. It was really about coming in with something new, something fresh, but yet it still being MORBID ANGEL. Really, honestly, we didn’t approach this any differently than any of the other albums I was involved in except for maybe [1998’s] ‘Formulas Fatal To The Flesh’, which ‘Formulas’, Trey [Azagthoth, guitar] wrote all the music, all the lyrics and things like that. But this was done more similar to maybe [2000’s] ‘Gateways To Annihilation’, where everybody had their contribution. Trey wrote a bunch of songs, I wrote songs, Scotty contributed some ideas. There was a lot of back-and-forth. In the end, it has to become a MORBID ANGEL song. And at this point, I feel that it’s very much a MORBID ANGEL album.”

MORBID ANGEL in January announced the addition of Dan Vadim Von (guitarist/frontman of the American death metal band VADIMVON) to the band’s lineup on second guitar. He joined the group as the replacement for Norwegian guitarist Destructhor (a.k.a. Thor Anders Myhren), who left the band two years ago.

Former MORBID ANGEL frontman David Vincent recently joined forces with several other musicians — including Yeung (drums) — to perform classic MORBID ANGEL songs under the I AM MORBID banner.

MORBID ANGEL’s avant-garde metal masterpiece 2011 album, “Illud Divinum Insanus”, marked the group’s first CD to feature Vincent since “Domination”.

The reason Morbid Angel is featured in these pages is because Morbid Angel is 30 years of the World’s Greatest Heavy Metal of all-time and one of the GREATEST HEAVY METAL BANDS OF ALL-TIME. Acutally the Morbid Angel album “Domination” is ranked/ rated as one of the GREATEST TRADITIONAL HEAVY METAL ALBUMS OF ALL-TIME, by hundreds of KICK ASS METAL staffers, but as the Boss, I have the Knowledge to Know that Crest of Darkness “The Ogress” is the greatest heavy metal album of all-time, which has been a undisputed fact @ KICK ASS METAL since it was unleashed upon Planet Metal, back in May 12th, 1999, KICK ASS METAL is a GOTHIC age/ Avant-Garde age/ Death Metal age publication and Crest of Darkness has all 3 of those factors to perfection…..so that is the objective/subjective aspect of that fact. Morbid Angel as a traditional heavy metal band, as well as a death metal band has 6 albums in the top 100 heavy metal albums of all-time, in the traditional metal realm, those album are Abominations of Desolation 1986/19991 — Altars of Madness — Blessed are the Sick — Covenant —- Domination and —- Entangled in Chaos, as a traditional metal and extreme metal fan, all of those 6 albums also belong on the top 100 extreme metal albums of all-time, also. As a Avant-Garde Age Publication, the Avant-Garde Metal Community championed the Avant-Garde Metal Timeless Masterpiece “Illud Divimum Insanus”….which that article has now been pulled but I have a photographic memory so I remember that article being published, because I have a print out of it as I went to the record store for that album, since it achieved the status of being, SUPREME IMMORATAL METALLIC ART OF THE HIGHEST ORDER FROM THE GOTHIC METAL/ AVANT-GARDE METAL COMMUNITY !!!! I have been going to the record store 3 to 4 times a week since October 1st, 1982, when I lived 3 blocks away, 900 feet awasy from a METAL ELITIST / METAL ONLY record shoppe !!!!!
Morbid Angel is one of the few artist from the GOLDEN AGE OF HEAVY METAL. AUGUST 1ST, 1981 TO OCTOBER 31ST, 1986, to be covered in these pages. Motörhead, Morbid Angel are two bands that never sold-out or washed-up and washed-out like every 1980’s heavy metal bands. 1980’s heavy metal artist could not cut it in the 1990’s…first wash-ups and sell-outs in 1985 and the genre being THE LAUGHING STOCK OF heavy metal community, skateboards and Bermuda shorts…etc….!!!  That is the reason the Death Metal age happened and is still the zeitgeist of the genre. And the Genre got a crushing blow When Metallica unleashed upon Planet GLAM METAL the timeless AOR/GLAM Metal masterpiece Metallica “Metallica” on August 12, 1991 the Mötley Crüe-esque Metallica “Metallica” even getting Mötley Crüe’s producer to achieve the AOR/Glam Metal/ Hair Metal/ Los Angels Metal sound and style…..As a Glam Metal fan I claim Metallica “Metallica” as one of our own….and appears on the top 100 GLAM METAL ALBUMS OF ALL-TIME LIST, and is a KICK ASS METAL HEAVY METAL HALL OF FAME album in the GLAM METAL category. Most of the sell-out thrash metal albums are perfect for a GLAM METAL RECORD COLLECTION — Metallica “Metallica”, Megadeath “Countdown to Extinction” Testament “Practice What Your Preach”. As a gothic metal age publication there is no such thing as selling out in OUR genre, but Heavy Metal is the only genre where this phenomena/ selling out occurs….and seeing Metal bands sellout is not only fascinating, put kind of cool really seeing Metal bands cater to the people who hated them since day one, while betraying the fanbase who made them millions and legends in the first place. As a gothic metal fan, I know the difference between hard rock and heavy metal and gothic metal, and it is cool to watch almost every song-writer from the 1980’s to be fascinated with the Popular Culture song-writing formula. It still listen to Classical Music and Heavy Metal/ Gothic Metal 50/50. It helps keeps me geared toward the gothic/avant-garde side of heavy metal!! Keep in Mind Thrash Metal was already dead, wash-up, and sold-out long before Metallica released a album Metallica “Metallica” on August 12th, 1991…. which has more in common with Pantera’s “Power Metal” Mötley Crüe “Too Fast for Love”, Mötley Crüe “Shout at the Devil” and WASP “WASP” instead of Tyges of Pan Tang “WildCat”. Were just letting you know the actual subjective/objective facts as why Metallica was a KILLER METAL band for just say 5 years and Morbid Angel achieved 30 years of the greatest heavy metal band of all-time !!!

Because I noticed Jack off Jill “Clear Hearts and Grey Flowers” was released on July 17th, 2000, and the Megaforce Records Pressing, with a different sound from the November 18th, 1984 Elektra Records pressing, from the Megaforce Records, which was released on July 27th, 1984 and this album was UNLEASHED ON PLANET METAL on July 7th, 2017!!! Which are 3 very important anniversary released dates from me…!! Since those are 3 of the most KICK ASS METAL album in constant playlist rotation !!!

As a specialized press, I am always looking for forward thinking bands, even if some want to give this band a retro tag……ie a golden age of their genre !!!!

Whoa…is Kabbalah hard rock or heavy metal…..!!!! Actually something like hard rock/heavy metal…!!! But that is not really that important (this is a avant-garde AGE publication, and we support all World-Class music, no matter the genre or where a band hails from)  what is important is that Kabbalah play in a convincing,  KICK ASS and BAD ASS way….!! And always make sure to stamp their own sound, style and originality, all over their songs, and are masters at song-writing and  music composition.

When listening to the bands unique, one-of-a-kind sound….one thinks of Blood Ceremony, Jess and the Ancient Ones, Black Sabbath, Coven, Ghost, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult and the likes…and trust me on this, nothing wrong with being compared to some of the greatest bands of all-time….!!! Kabbalah actual embraces the GOLD STANDARD of WORLD-CLASS Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal…..and as of July 7tlh, 2017 are part of the GOLD STANDARD, because trust me on this !!!! Our favorite albums at KICK ASS METAL in Chronological order are

Coven “Witchcraft Reaps Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls”, Mercyful Fate “Melissa” Cradle of Filth “The Principle of Evil Made Flesh”, Crest of Darkness “The Ogress”, Riti Occulti “Riti Occulti” Lucifer “Lucifer I” Jess and the Ancient Ones “Second Psycheldic Coming — The Aquarius Tapes”….TOP 5 to TOP 1O ALBUMS OF ALL-TIME LIST REALLY !!!! As a specialized press for World-Class Metal with World-Class Vocalist !!!!!….and like I said HEAVY METAL HALL OF FAMES AND ALTARS OF METALLIC MAYHEM are built around certain albums/bands….!! Just we state which albums are the best of the best, and our offices are no different from other metal publications, just were not afraid to tell the truth and wear our influences on our sleeve !!!!!

No matter what top 10, top 25, top 100 albums of all-time and each genre/sub-genre you have and collect. Kabbalah “Spectral Ascent”, can easily be in your heavy rotation play-list, between the best of the best….This album will get tons of heavy rotation between Jess and the Ancient ones and Coven @ the KICK ASS METAL offices !!!!!

And we have an affinity for POWER TRIOS @ KICK ASS METAL and Kabbalah is a POWER TRIO, and lets not forget that there World-Class Vocalist is Carmen who is also the drummer, and bring back tons of Nostalgia to July 1982 (the demo) and July 1983 (the demo pressed to vinyl) to Exctiter’s Dan Beehler !!!! It has been that long since a World-Class artist has had its World-Class Drummer, also be there World-Class Vocalist !!!!!!!!!!

THIS ALBUM IS FUCKING ESSENTIAL TO SAY THE LEAST…!!!AND WITH THE STUNNING ARTWORK OF THE ALBUM, this album is a true “must have”….will rank every high on this years top 100 albums of the year…..!!!! Before we decide which GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL-TIME LIST Kabbalah goes on, for now they are a top 100 band with a top 100 album of the year 2017 !!!!!!!

Sorry there is not a ton of write-ups on this band so…… Metal Maidens, KICK ASS  METAL, Sonic Cathedral, Femme Metal webzine, Black Phoenix Rising . Ravenheart Music, & Occult Rock webzine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LETS GET TO WORK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Author Unknown.

Essay found on the second panel of the “All Little Devils/ Python Zero” re-edition on GOLD DISC, which the band deserved, because there music is so peerless and timeless.

There is nothing more KICK*ASS*METAL in my collection that rules like the Anja Natasha – era Dismal Euphony…but since I will be doing a chapter, in a collectors book on the Anja Natasha-era of Dismal Euphony. Everyone needs to remember that the band was already a legendary and heavy metal hall of fame gothic metal band during the Keltiziva – era of Dismal Euphony. So when I do my top 500 albums of all time. I will be listing Dismal Euphony for 5 classic Norwegian Gothic Metal releases. The band is so unique, they deserve to be listed in a chapter on Norwegian Gothic Metal, Norwegian Symphonic Black Metal, and as a avant-garde metal legend…This band pre-dates the current avant-garde metal movement by 3 years….the band was ahead of its time in a huge way. And Dismal Euphony deserves nothing but trust and respect, from the metal movement !!!

I worship heavy metal at the altar of Anja Natasha – era Dismal Euphony ..!!!

The band is so on target taste (Norwegian gothic, Norwegian black, Norwegian avant-garde, Symphonic, Gothic, symphonic with electronica, beauty and the beast vocal configuriation), to what I do over here at KICK*ASS*METAL, the Python Zero press photo of the Anja Natasha – era of the band hangs in my music library…DO YOU GOTH WHAT IT TAKES…Oh yeah they do. And for this Dismal Euphony is a GODSEND to all fans of gothic classical music, gothic avant-garde classical music, gothic avant-garde rock and metal, gothic rock and gothic metal.

Norway is only 4% of the world’s population, and since say 1993 40% of the classic albums in all sub-genres of heavy metal comes from this Country.

Long Live Dismal Euphony !!!

Long Live Anja Natasha…!!!!!!!!!!!

The five Dismal Euphony albums every fan of gothic metal must own at all cost are…
