The Sacramento-based quintet GRAVESHADOW – who deftly mixes symphonic/gothic metal with elements of doom, thrash and epic progressive power metal – have built asteady following in the Western United States in recent years through regional tours and performances alongside the likes of Arkona, Children of Bodom, Apocalyptica, Marty Friedman, Death Angel, Flotsam and Jetsam and Anvil. After self-releasing an EP in 2014, the group signed with Belgium’s Mausoleum Records for the release of their debut full-length, 2015’s acclaimed Nocturnal Resurrection, praised by Metal Temple as an “epic melody of steel with a fusion of what we all love in metal.”

In 2017, the group signed with M-Theory Audio and continued to tour aggressively while also working on their second album, Ambition’s Price. Packed with crushing guitars, beautiful keyboard melodies, thundering bass, earth-shattering drums and powerful vocals that range from operatic highs to unearthly growls, the album’s music creates a rich and dynamic atmosphere that is ripe for storytelling. Whether it is a tale of personal struggle or of fantastical creatures, the listener is sure to find themselves immersed in a world apart.

Produced and mixed by Armand John Anthony (Night Demon, The Fucking Wrath, Gygax), and mastered by Colin Davis at Imperial Mastering (Deeds of Flesh, Decrepit Birth, Origin), “Ambition’s Price” features stunning cover artwork by Serbian fantasy graphic designer Dusan Markovic (Jag Panzer, Mystic Prophecy, Seven Kingdoms). Highlights include the stunning “Hero Of Time” (which features a guest solo by Anthony), the epic three-part “Call of the Frostwolves” and the powerful “Doorway To Heaven.”

GRAVESHADOW – managed by Jeff Keller for The Artery Foundation (Destruction, Arsis, Sirenia) – is poised and ready to leave a lasting impact within the metal community. With an electrifying stage show and a sound as large as the Dragons of Westeros, they are as talented as they are unforgettable

As a GOTHIC METAL-age / AVANT-GARDE-age/ DEATH METAL-age Publication.  These ages started in 1993/ 1987 / 1990 respectively. We cover any World-Class Heavy Metal artist, no matter the genre, and no matter what part of the World, they come from. As a specialized press for Scandinavian and Norwegian Gothic Metal/ Horror Metal/ Dark Metal/ Avant-Garde Metal, KILLER GODLY KICK ASS METAL comes from all over planet metal.

Heavy Metal BIBLE Chapter Graveshadow

All the KICK ASS METAL is interconnected, through the history of the genre.

All bands featured in these pages are World-Class Heavy Metal artist. And on a live front Graveshadow is one of the greatest live bands of the Golden Age of True Metal which has it beginnings with the Nerovsa “2012” EP and The Abnromality “Contaminating The Hive Mind”.

Last night at one the KICK ASS METAL offices, at all 5 we have the top 700 metal albums of all-time, in Military Lockers on Wheels, in the event of a “act of god” which is a insurance term, grab the relevant most important albums in the genres’ history, roll it out the door…. I opened that thing up, in one of our offices and fuck yea, Graveshadow “Nocturnal Ressurection”it was there, like i knew it would be!!! Graveshadow “Ambitons Price” will be added to these top 700 albums of all-time box, each sub-genre we have a Sacred 700 and from these styles we choose a top 100 from each sub-genre.

As far as top 100 albums, Graveshadow will be on the top 100 albums of 2015/ 2018 list, BOTH “Nocturnal Ressurection” & “Ambitons Price” both are KICK ASS METAL HEAVY METAL HALL OF FAME ALBUMS, TOP 100 albums of the current GOLDEN AGE OF TRUE METAL August 16th 2012 top Present….for hopefully i can petition the hall of fame committee here, to have Graveshadow moved into other top 100 list….but for now, these are the KICK ASS METAL HEAVY METAL HALL OF FAME achievements. Here are other achievements Graveshadow has in life since there foundation in 2013

2016 “Sammie” (Sacramento Area Music Awards) winner for best Metal band

2016 “Sammie” nominee for “Artist of the Year” and “Release of the Year”

2015 “Sammie” nominee for best Metal band

KICK ASS METAL has everything in common with Metal Maidens Print Editions and webZine, THE GODLY Sonic Cathedral webZine, Avant-Garde Metal Print Editions, as well as the work of George L. McHard….keep in mind i am influecend from the acutal heavy metal press of the actual era of heavy metal and i visit no WEBZINE unless they had a print edition from 1981 to 1991, i never stop reading the actual heavy metal press after the internet-age of 2004 happened.

Was reading a Fanzine all-night when listening to this album Graveshadow “Ambitions Price” all-night!!!!

Seeing these METAL GODS and METAL LEGENDS Graveshadow, share the stage with Anvil (GODS/LEGENDS), Night Demon (GODS/LEGENDS)…whoa !!!!

Easily one of the best concerts I have seen in 2017  for sure a top 25 concert of that year, i see tons of my favorite favorite artist live, and Graveshadow RULES on Stage….hopefully they are around this part of planet metal the upcoming years

Heather Michele is one of my favorite World-Class Vocalist of all-time, and Graveshadow is one of the most convincing metal live acts around these days, if your a  insane metal maniac die-hard true fan  of Heavy Metal with Symphonic/ Gothic/ Doom elements of Power Metal/ Thrash Metal mixed with then Graveshadow is our highest recommendation, in the Heavy Metal realm. The Symphonic/ Gothic element of heavy metal comes from classical music, which I have been a fan of since May 17th 1967….lifelong fan of this style of music.

On November 13th 2015

Graveshadow unleashed on Planet Metal, “Nocturanl Ressurection”

one of the best Heavy Metal/ Symphonic Metal/ Gothic Metal styled albums of that year, decade, and is a GOLD STANDARD album in this style.  GOLD STANDAND is a NOUN and means the best, most reliable, or most prestigious thing of its kind. In this case were talking about a GOTHIC Metal/ Symphonic Metal album as a GOTHIC METAL-age HEAVY METAL publication. I cover all GOTHIC & GOTHIC METAL across every specturm ROCK/METAL/CLASSICAL/AVANT-GARDE. If this belongs more on the Symphonic Metal Heavy Metal History list, then so be it. As a GOTHIC/AVANT-GARDE metal based publication. This for sure is a KICK ASS METAL album and belongs in these pages just as much IF NOT MORE THAN ANY OTHER BAND IN THESE PAGES !!!

As a heavy metal fan since 1978, we listen to alot of KEYBOARD based heavy metal a true believer of this style, since those heavy metal albums like that were released in the early 1980’s. And without a doubt Valerie Hudak, is a top-notch World-Class Keyboard Player in our GENRE !!!!!!!!!!!!

Like i said earlier, I have Graveshadow “Nocturnal Ressurection” and “Ambitions Price”  were added to the top 700 most important Heavy Metal albums of all-time list, and is shelved in every Music Library in all my houses. Keep in mind there are 7 top 700 heavy metal best albums list (heavy, power, thrash, death, black…) aka Sacred 700’s and from that 4,900 albums i made a top 700 albums military footlocker in the event of a “act of god”….these album is in the same box as Vintage Metallica, Iron Maiden……you know these pages inside out, you will figure it out!!!

As a Gothic Metal fan i am a huge fans of Heather Michele’s work from GraveShadow especailly because i am a huge fan of the Beauty and the Beast Vocalist configuration, and her twist on this style is highly enjoyable, because she offers a savior solution for ALL GOTHIC FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE FUTURE….and Heather Michele’s Growls are some of the best in that style, and this comes from a TOTAL Cradle of Filth/ Abnormality / Threatre of Tragedy….etc metal fanatic.

I do own the Helion Prime “Helion Prime”  1st ALBUM

Is Sarah Teets on this TOP 100 HEAVY METAL ALBUMS OF ALL-TIME LIST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TOP 100 albums 20th century and 21st century for the TOP 100 albums on this list if a album is out of print, it is not a top 100 album, band that are active like MindMaze are on the top 100 list…..

First and Last and Always”, to name a specific metal genre as gothic, which makes the oh-so renowned and overabused gothic metal term, this specific metal genre MUST have references and influences from the gothic rock/dark wave scene from the 80s. Apparently, without any second thought and a shadow of doubt, many bands from this so-called commercial and big scene are not gothic metal because they have not a single reference from the gothic rock/dark wave scene of the 80s. It really is something funny for metalheads that know nothing about this scene to speak about gothic music. But what is even more funny is the fact that part of the metal scene dislikes goths and when you ask them “which people do you refer to as goths?” you get the answer “those people, man, that paint their eyes black and listen to Marilyn Manson endlessly”, even from this you can get that a big part of the metal scene really has nothing to do in knowledge and experience about the gothic subculture, its bands and its audience. And thus this over-confusion passes in the gothic metal scene.
You see, the gothic subculcture has all these chicks dressed in black, with the cute faces, the beautiful make up and stuff, yes, I know, they are beautiful, I adore them as well, but, sadly, when a female-fronted metal band starts sounding a bit more symphonic/atmospheric or even a bit melancholic and has a female singer, preferably cute that stands as the front of the band and wears all these beautiful scarlet or velvet or black dresses with flowers and stuff, people start referring to this band as gothic metal, for no reason apparently. A female singer that has a more obscure and “poetic” dress-code won’t make a band a gothic one, apparently, it’s the music that matters, not the supposed dress-code. And so we come to bands like Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Epica, After Forever and so on, well, these bands have nothing to do, more or less each one of them (or used to have a slight reference but they have nothing to do anymore), with the gothic metal genre, the only common thing they have as bands is that they are female-fronted, does this make them gothic metal? No, for fuck’s sake no! Ok, they have their own atmosphere each one of them, they have some strong female vocalists, some good tunes, others more others less, but that’s all people; no gothic elements, no gothic metal.
If you want some bands with female vocalists that actually play gothic metal then you should definitely check Tristania of the first era (who can deny that “Widow’s Weeds” has gothic rock elements? I’ll give the answer, no-one can because these elements are present in the guitar work; and let’s not forget the gothic rock guest male vocals on “Angellore” ), Theatre Of Tragedy of the first three releases, yes, they are gothic metal, and not because Liv Kristine used to wear black dresses and have that absolute female gothic look, just check the music, apparently gothic metal, then come Trail Of Tears, their first releases are also strong and gothic metal, really good work and it seems to me at times that the gothic metal scene including female vocals blossomed in Norway, judging from the bands I mentioned above. And of course I shouldn’t skip to mention Sirenia, the band Morten Veland formed after he left Tristania, another wonderful gothic metal act, with intense gothic rock elements, even the hat in the vein of The Sisters Of Mercy/The Fields Of The Nephilim is present, hehe (if you don’t believe me ask Mr. Veland and check Elusive’s debut album, “Destination Zero”, to see which are his influences; for the history, Elusive are a rising gothic rock act from Norway and Veland played the guitars on this album) and of course I shouldn’t skip to mention Beseech, they have female vocals as well in their compositions, but they are a 50%-50% female-male fronted band now, with balanced male and female vocals. Just check their first two releases, pure romantic gothic/doom metal with The Fields Of The Nephilim references being too intense, both in guitar parts filled with gothic rock riffing and vocal lines in which the first singer of the band sounds like a reincarnation of Carl McCoy. And of course I shouldn’t skip to mention As Divine Grace from Finland, they used to be a romantic doom/death metal act but with years they became more gothic metal oriented, with female vocals, a really strong band that sadly disbanded.
You know, a band to be called gothic metal must have references from the gothic rock/dark wave scene as I said above, which means, Christian Death (with Rozz Williams on the vocals of course, hehehe! Or Valor of “Atrocities”, it was an awesome album, i have to admit it! And why not “Sex & Drugs & Jesus Christ”, their last really strong album with Valor!), The Mission, The Sisters Of Mercy, The Fields Of The Nephilim, Bauhaus, early The Cult, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Clan Of Xymox, Virgin Prunes, early Dead Can Dance etc must be present, with each band sticking to its own references. And what the history has shown to me is that whenever gothic rock acts started turning heavier and more metal-oriented they made far better work from gothic metal acts, because gothic rockers really know what to do, they have the feeling in their blood, it’s flowing, they know how to express it correctly and make it sound heavier if they want to enter a heavier sound stage. And of course I will mention some gothic rock/metal acts and first and above all one of the best gothic acts of the 90s that most of you don’t know, DREADFUL SHADOWS, listen to them to feel the decadence, the sorrow, the pain, the gothic aesthetic, the gothic feeling from a band that released four great albums and with every album it tended to sound steps further, reaching “The Cycle” where more modern references made their appearance. After Dreadful Shadows sadly disbanded Sven Friedrich and Norman Selbig of Dreadful Shadows formed Zeraphine, another wonderful gothic rock/metal act with a more modern approach of course. Another fabulous gothic rock/metal act have to be Scream Silence, at times tending to sound like Dreadful Shadows, but they tended to perfect their own sound, their first two album are the most metallic ones and the other three are heavy still, but more gothic rock definitely; at times they tend to have a doomy feeling as well. Secret Discovery is a good band as well, moving in pure gothic rock in their early years and from a moment and on they started sounding a lot more metallic. Also, Love Like blood is a gothic rock band ,one of the best if you ask me, they have released some really strong opuses during the first half of the 90s, in the second half of the 90s from a moment and on they started sounding heavy and “Snakekiller” is a good gothic metal/rock album. Take Garden of Delight now, one of the best gothic rock acts of the 90s, they released in 7 years 7 albums with 7 songs each one of them, they disbanded afterwards, after the first circle had ended. They came back in the 00s, stronger, heavier, more powerful, but above all gothic rock. After 4 albums they formed Lutherion and they definitely are gothic metal/rock now, sounding really heavy, gothic rock-oriented and with an electro touch as well! Most and above all I shouldn’t forget to mention the metal approach of Carl McCoy, first with The Nefilim in the second half of the 90s and recently with the dynamic come back of the Fields Of The Nephilim. “Zoon” of the Nefilim was a brilliant piece of thrash/death metal blended with strong doses of gothic rock in the renowned McCoy n’ Fields vein and “Mourning Sun” of The Fields Of The Nephilim is an album of pure gothic rock/metal, a really strong release to show to the gothic metal scene who can rule the scene in no time. And let’s mention NFD, a The Nefilim oriented project, heavy enough and always gothic rock and another project from members of The Nefilim, Saints Of Eden, gothic rock with heavy doses of metal and electronic/industrial elements, sounding really heavy and definitely really strong!
Now concerning some gothic metal acts I should mention Evereve of their first era with Tom Schedotschenko, heart-rending, twisted, mourning gothic metal from the pits of Hell, utterly desolate and melancholic, with the ideal references! After the suicide of the singer a new singer came on board and they released an easier album, gothic metal still, afterwards they started moving in more electronic soundscapes. Darkseed as well, they definitely had gothic-oriented references in albums like “Diving Into Darkness” and “Give Me Light” etc, a good band definitely. Paradise Lost OF COURSE and no matter how much doomsters hit their asses on the wall and point out that “Gothic” is doom/death metal I will always be there to be a pain in the ass and their closed mind to point out that it is one of the first pure gothic metal releases, not because of the name, “Gothic”, but because of the music. Listen carefully, the gothic rock references on the guitars are too obvious, where Sisters Of Mercy stepped Paradise Lost found water. The orchestrations have a Celtic Frost sense from the “Into The Pandemonium” era and a dark wave aesthetic as well along with the fragile female vocals that seem to have come out of the 80s dark wave scene. Sure, it has a doom sense, but think about it more. Paradise Lost continued as a gothic metal act after “Shades Of God” (which was doom metal at all costs) releasing many fabulous albums like “Draconian times”, “Icon”, “One Second”, “Paradise Lost” etc, one of the best acts of the gothic metal scene. I shouldn’t skip Lacrimosa, one of the most important acts of this very scene; i have heard/read that they are progressive gothic metal, this statement always sounded funny to me from people that really have absolutely nothing to do with the scene. Tilo Wolf is a pure genius, from the gothic-death rock/dark wave oriented first releases of Lacrimosa to the historic moment when Anne Nurmi entered the band and Lacrimosa started becoming metal, gothic metal of course! Because the references remained, the doses of classical music became too obvious and one of the characteristic parts of the sound of the band. Generally they kept the Lacrimosa feeling alive, they just became one of the most quality, recognisable and best acts of the scene. Lacrimas Profundere, from a romantic doom/death metal act they started slowly and steadily incorporating in their sound gothic references reaching nowadays where they are a goth n’ roll act, slightly metal, more of a rock band, gothic rock with a poser attitude. And since I mentioned the poser attitude of Lacrimas Profundere I shouldn’t skip at all to mention The 69 Eyes, a non-metal band, they are goth n’ roll as well, at some times offering more more romantic gothic rock like on “Paris Kills”, at others more hard rock/gothic rock having several references from the 80s/early 90s. Where the Sisters Of Mercy left “Vision Thing” and The Cult left their releases Jyrki, Jussi and their companions stole them and found out many useful things for the now-sound of The 69 Eyes and Jyrki where Ian Astbury and the singer of LA Guns stood proud stole a bit of their pride to form his stage presence. So no, The 69 Eyes are not metal, poser gothic rock or goth n’ roll yes, definitely. A! Beyond Dawn’s “Pity Love” shouldn’t be missing from here as well, an album having the decadence of doom, references from the doom metal scene and of course intense The Sisters Of Mercy passages, both in structure and guitar parts, but always tending to present them through their very own and unique avant-garde prism. I shouldn’t forget to mention, just for the history, that Beyond Dawn during that period were supporting the Sisters Of Mercy at some of their shows, not a coincidence, is it? I shouldn’t skip Tiamat, they had a good course changing their sound from album to album, progressing positively, and as you all noticed they had their gothic rock-driven moments as well. Their latest release to date “Prey” was a metallic gothic rock worship with Edlund’s haunting vocals entrancing the atmosphere, “Skeleton Skeletron” had also a gothic rock air, quite modern in sound, good enough but nothing awesome and “A Deeper Kind Of Slumber” which was a mixture of psychedelic rock with gothic rock and stuff, good work! And some of you that may know, Johan Edlund has a gothic rock oriented band, Lucyfire, good stuff. Also, The Babylon Whores, not many know them, but they are awesome, a metal-driven Christian Death worship band, they know what they are doing, really good act! Another bright example of a band that injected intense 80s gothic/dark elements have to be Portugal’s finest and most known act, Moonspell, with bands like “The Antidote”, “Sin/Pexado” (a very underrated album), “Darkness And Hope” and “Irreligious”, they have to be one of those bands that interpret gothic metal in a really good and personal manner! Also, a new band around that had quite an impressive course so far with their two releases are definitely The Vision Bleak, travelling through the corridors of nightmares, drama, horror and gothic decadence they offer a new and fresh air to the scene! Also, Yearning from Finland are doing a good job with their esoteric and beautifully adorned by sadness and esoteric emotions gothic/doom metal. Last but not least Kreator’s “Endorama” is a thousand times more gothic metal than all those so-called gothic metal bands that are being referred as gothic metal by the silly music press and the audience that knows nothing about what is gothic, doesn’t “Endorama” sound so gothic metal to you? Change scene! It’s so simple!
The problem with the gothic metal scene doesn’t end here, there are two more problems with the scene except for the female-fronted bands that are mostly being referred by both press and audience as gothic metal and of course i’m referring to part of the Visual Kei scene and the Suomi Metal scene with bands tending to sound romantic, melancholic or suicidal, moving in metal/rock soundscapes with common road on their course being the melancholy factor. Concerning the Visual Kei scene with bands like Moi Dix Mois, Malice Mizer and stuff, they have an intense gothic aesthetic in their appearance, but this is the most gothic part of their existence, their music apart from some keyboard-driven really dark passages has nothing to do with the gothic rock/dark wave scene and the Bauhaus references in those bands that i have read somewhere is definitely non-existent and i know Bauhaus really well to not recognise them in a band. Well, part of the Visual Kei that is being referred as gothic metal could be the Japanese option of gothic metal, somethng different, something “foreign” to the European scene/audience, so I won’t be absolute in this case. I have to admit, anytime with the hand on my heart, that those Visual Kei bands are more gothic than all the other female-fronted or Suomi “we’re supposed to be gothic” metal bands will ever be, both in reality and dreams. And let’s move to the Suomi metal scene, believe me, I used to be a huge fan of this very specifc scene supporting bands like HIM, Entwine, For My Pain, Poisonblack, Charon, Sentenced, Lullacry, To Die For etc, I still support Entwine, HIM and To Die For because all those three are bands that have a lot to offer in my opinion, but really, where did you people find all these gothic elements in their compositions? You can always inform me because I’m craving to know more about gothic music and I would love to find out where all these elements hide and I can’t find them. I had read somewhere that Sentenced were gothic metal and on their latest releases they became gothic rock, HA HA! I mean, how funny is that? Only a metalhead that knows nothing about the gothic scene would ever say that, and a metalhead was indeed the person who said that. Ignorance is bad, definitely bad, and in this case ignorance has caused a lot of harm, something that disgusts me seeing it going on more and more day by day.
Well, I got bored writing and I think you’ll get bored reading too, so I will stop for now, but I will have to warn all of you i-know-it-all metalheads (to avoid misunderstandings, I’m not referring to every single metalhead, but to a specific part of it) that will give my article a shot, “if the truth hurts, prepare for pain”. Kisses!

I get asked all the time how may Leather Leone top 100 albums does she have, and i just always say “How many albums has she released” !!!! …. KICK ASS METAL staff

Friday the 13th March 13th, 2018. My binge for that day which i hit the record store 3 times a week, since Mid October 1982….on Friday the 13th – March 13th 2018, my binge was the Leather “II” CD on DiveBomb Records, I will be adding all world-wide pressings through the upcoming weeks to my serious metallic record collection. the new Graveshadow “Ambitions Prices”. Riot :”Fire Down Under” a top 100 traditional heavy metal album which was unleashed on Planet Metal originally of Feburay 9th 1981, this time it was ROCK CANDY Records who had the genius to but this out on CD again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Metallica “Garage Days Re-Visited” since the first pressing was only around for 2 years when initially released. I had to cut this binge short like this, this week…whoa…tax day Final in United States of America is April 17th 2018…so arrrgghhhhhh man what a cool kick ass day as a insane metal fanatic metal maniac on this day.  I wanted to do the Leather “II” album review 1st out of this batch…..because quite simply i listen to Chastain a lot. As well as everything Leather Leone does, and let’s not forget i am also a huge Kate French and Vainglory fan….soooo!!!!!

Growing up during the 1980’s metal movement as a teenager then back in 1980, on of my favorite label’s back then was Mike Varney’s Sharpnel Records, starting with the 1st full length Release, all the way through the brilliant era from 1983-1986 being highlights, but after this point in 1986, there is still tons of stellar releases all the way through out that labels discography. Mike Varney had the ear for finding the best of the best in heavy metal guitarist, i read a few interviews of his in Guitar Player Magazine, he is a guitar player, with a impressive collection. Stateside we had Combat/ Megaforce/ Metal Blade/ Shrapnel as the albums always in stock of the Major Metal ONLY record shoppes in America, in Las Vegas we had two of the Molten Metal Records and The Record Gallery which only carried HEAVY METAL ONLY, in reaction to the NWOBHM movement…..!!!! The Record Vault was THE Best Metal Only Record Store in San Francisco, back in the 1980’s….!!

So ha ha….everyone is thinking whoa….how come these is no Leather “II” CD album before Friday the 13th, March 13th 2018….well everyone relax, i always review from listening to actual albums that I buy with my own money, i never review, from non album of CDalbum or cassette sources!!

Anyhow this publication is heavy on the neo-classical/ classical side of heavy metal. Think Blues, Jazz, Classical.KICK ASS METAL is way on the Classical side of this spectrum because of my affinity for the Shrapnel Records label and LIKE-MINDED artist. Testament “The Legacy” — Megadeth “Rust in Peace” — Sindrome “The Resurrection….” — The Commander in Chief   — The Great Kat–  Randy Rhodes -era Ozzy Osbourne — Edge of Paradise with Dave Bates…..tons of others. Chastain is in this big league, for sure!!!! While the band has a perfect discography my favorite is Chastain “We Bleed Metal”, this answer is different in 2018. 2008, 1998, 1988…..

The line up on the all time classic is

DIVE163
CD

OVERVIEW:
Oft-championed alongside Wendy O. Williams, Betsy Bitch, and Doro Pesch as a leading torchbearer for high-power heavy metal frontwomen, LEATHER LEONE is perhaps best known for her outstanding work alongside legendary guitar shredder David T. Chastain—having performed on no less than four of CHASTAIN’s full-length albums prior to releasing her solo debut, Shock Waves, in 1989. However, after another stellar outing with CHASTAIN the following year with For Those Who Dare, a lengthy hiatus occurred, and it would be 20 years before LEATHER’s inimitable vocal force would resurface.

2011 found LEONE once more joining forces with early-’80s Rude Girl bandmate Sandy Sledge for the Sledge Leather project, resulting in the 2012 full-length Imagine Me Alive. Subsequent albums with CHASTAIN followed in Surrender to No One (2013) and We Bleed Metal ‎(2015); and touring under her own name throughout South America and Europe over the past two years, LEATHER and her current lineup of Vinnie Tex and Daemon Ross (guitars), Thiago Velasquez (bass), and Braulio Drummond (drums) have harnessed their newfound fire into a brand new album slated for the spring of 2018. Produced by guitarist Tex alongside Rodrigo Scelza at studios in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Białystok, Poland, the scorching 11-song outing—titled simply II—was mixed and mastered by the Wiesławski Brothers (VADER, BEHEMOTH, etc.).

Having previously reissued LEONE’s phenomenal solo debut—not to mention three of her CHASTAIN-backed classics—Divebomb Records is now excited to support LEATHER’s latest endeavor to fly the flag of courageous metal with II. In the band’s own words: “Straight ahead pure heavy metal! No hippies, no posers!”

The Blurb Below on my Divebomb Records Verision Says Leather Leone Has Returned For fans of Chastain — Doro — Dio — Warlock — Halford

This album easilly fits in between heavy rotation and belongs in your serious heavy metal collection along side Chastain “We Bleed Metal”, Doro “Raise Your Fist” Dio “Holy Diver” Warlock’ Triumph and Agony” and Halford “Resurrection, as well as Judas Preist “Pain Killer” and “Fire Power” ….. There are 4,800 top 100 heavy metal albums since the genre since its inception o Friday the 13th – Febuary 13th, 1970…Leather “II” is on our best of the best of all-time list, it has to do with Heavy Metal’s GOLD STANDARD, the albums which ALL BANDS are judged against. Gold Standard is a noun and it means the best, most reliable, or most prestigious thing of its type…in this case we are talking about World-Class Heavy Metal with authenticity, Authencity for means which is real, and genuine, Authenticity is something that never be taught those who have it WILL ALWAYS have there star power SHINE THE BRIGHTEST…!! I know the difference between my subjective favorites and what should be taken seriously objectively. And Leather Leone IS THE REAL DEAL !!!!!!

CHASTAIN-We Bleed Metal (Leviathan Records)
The previous CHASTAIN album sounded a lot different than what I was used to of this band. I was convinced that it all could have sounded so much better and more powerful. My prayers must have been heard somewhere down the line, because the first notes of the title track of “We Bleed Metal” are truly AWESOME!! The album runs for forty-five bloody minutes and contains nine tracks. “We Bleed Metal” opens with the siren voice of Leather Leone. The drums are pounding and on top of that there’s the maestro himself David T. Chastain, who shreds like never before. Both horns up for CHASTAIN! This album is really vicious, it’s mean and it sounds all freaking right. “All Hail The King” could easily be renamed into “All Hail CHASTAIN”. Man, what a dynamic sound! The fast pounding drums destroy your eardrums and Leather sings better than ever. Once again, there’s the incredible guitar solo of David, who really nails it the ground. The PRIEST-like sound is being drilled into your stomach and gives it a good shake. It will make your head go up and down from excitement. A nice moody intro will remind you of some classical PRIEST tunes from long ago, while the power comes later on. “Against All The Gods” has got a great beat, on which the song is being build. The song itself has got that crazy rhythm, you just can’t deny. The closing is a real surprise, but it fits perfectly to this song. “Search Time For You” opens with a great guitar part. The slower sludgy sound gives it a true metal feeling. The guitar fills are mind-blowing and it gives the album a lot of variation. I hear some MANOWAR influences along the way, too. But it always stays true to the heavy sound and you just can’t stop throwing your fists in the air. “Don’t Trust Tomorrow” is another mighty fast rocker with a leading role for the sharp voice of Leather, who will slit your throat. And if she doesn’t do the trick, David’s fast solo part will. “I’m A Warrior” is on next. Need I say more? They are the true warriors of heavy metal to the max. While “Evolution Of Terror” just demands to put your fist down. The fast guitar sound of David is back and it will put a smile on the face of every devoted metal head, I guess. It’s also good to hear the bass sound of Mike Skimmerhorn, which is as solid as a rock. “The Last Ones Alive” must be a song about survivors and I’m glad that these four people survived. The vocals of Leather reminded me more of UDO DIRKSCHNEIDER here. The groovy and dirty sound of CD closer “Secrets” puts a big smile on my face. They did it again, they’re back, I’m happy and they can be proud of themselves. This is the comeback album, I’ve been hoping for in the first place. Well, better late than never though. I give it another spin, but this time louder than ever. CHASTAIN consists of David T. Chastain on guitars, Leather Leone on vocals, Mike Skimmerhorn on bass and Stian Kristoffersen on drums. I bleed metal, you bleed metal, we all bleed metal. A well-deserved full score for this masterpiece. Website: http://www.chastainmetal.com. [10 point – FULL SCORE] ——- FUCKING ESSENTIAL —-

Rock Candy just released ‘Remastered & Reloaded‘ Rock Candy Records version of Americans RIOT third album “Fire Down Under“, including 6 meaty bonus tracks.
The album is considered a big influence by many American bands to become famous during the ’80s, a blend of classic British metal / hard rock yet with a characteristic US touch.
The saying goes that you can’t keep a good band down. For New York based five piece Riot that maxim was not only true but hugely understated. Against all odds Riot fought for the right to be heard by overcoming huge obstacles and battling a ferociously indifferent industry.
That they came through the wars intact with a musical legacy and integrity to match is arguably a minor miracle and one not lost on their legions of loyal fans.
Riot’s early struggles have been fully documented. Their two previous albums (especially the previous killer ‘Narita’), made for a riveting preamble for the appearance of this “Fire Down Under”. Despite notching up serious momentum, including healthy album sales, the band’s fortunes were in the dumps.
Their label (Capitol) had elected to abandon them by refusing to release the album. In an enterprising move the bands fan following instigated a campaign to get the record issued… which, in an early sign of people power, was eventually accomplished but on a new label, Elektra Records.
“Fire Down Under” turned out to be the band creative zenith unleashing a brace of tracks that placed Riot in the upper echelons hard rock nirvana. Produced, once again, by their production/management team in New York City, the record explodes with deadly intent.
Tracks such as ‘Outlaw’, ‘Swords And Tequila’, ‘Run For Your Life’ and the title track take no prisoners allowing vocalist Guy Speranza and guitarist Mark Reale to shine like diamonds.
“Fire Down Under” was fully embraced by British metalheads. But rather than sounding much like Judas Priest or Black Sabbath, the name of the game here is bluesy hard rock from bands like Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy and Rainbow (bands from the UK, true, but with roots lying squarely in American blues rock).
Unlike Riot’s first two albums, for this third LP the band started playing a whole lot louder and making full use of the twin-guitar attack that Thin Lizzy made famous.
I do not exaggerate when I put vocalist Guy Speranza at his best here, on the same level as true greats like Halford or Dio; the man has the full frontman package, evincing incredible skill and talent while simultaneously dripping with charisma. Speranza reminds me of Glenn Hughes in a lot of ways, with a similar sort of high clear tenor, but with a soulful edge that comes and goes at will.
And underrated guitarist Mark Reale (RIP) really shines here, finding room to drop some scorching solos and a kick ass rhythm tamdem alongside second axeman Rick Ventura.
Riot surprises here as well with tracks such as ‘Altar of the King’. This is Riot’s take on Rainbow’s epic style, approaching the transcendence of something like ‘Stargazer’ in only about half the time but with a much more positive color. Speranza sings his heart out, with lyrics encapsulating the song’s theme of striving toward greatness and accomplishment through ambiguous epic pronouncements that would make Dio proud. Easily one of my favorite hard rock / melodic metal tracks of all time.
This Rock Candy features 6 great bonus tracks, recorded for the original Capitol Records version of “Fire Down Under” which the band seems were unhappy with. Well, I can’t hear why, because numbers like ‘You’re All I Needed Tonight’ (think FastWay) or ‘Struck By Lightning’ simply rocks.
We find also an officially previously unreleased version of ‘Outlaw (Remix / Edited)’, and a hot live take of Riot’s classic ‘Rock City (Live)’.
“Fire Down Under” boasts one of those timeless blends of classic hard rock / melodic metal which will sound just as good in the year 2018 as 1981: pure vibrant energy, direct guitar tone, groove bass lines, shuffling drums, and vocals doused in just enough reverb to capitalize on Speranza’s power.
It’s a great rocking disc, a cult classic that any collector will proudly claim.
The album was re-issued on CD in 1997 by the German-based High Vaultage label with some of these bonus tracks, but utilizing a new, controversial remix by former Riot producer Steve Loeb. This Rock Candy reissue features the original release mix / Elektra Records. And the remastering job is great with the necessary air for these rocking tunes to breath.

Out of the all the band I have seen live I have seen the band Halloween the most, then Seduce, then one of my favorite live bands of all-time L.A.Guns, then Metallica, then Exodus, then Slayer, then Motley Crue, the Ratt, then Skidrow. Since I lived on the West Coast and the Mid-West, currently i have 5 residences, and my vacation perks are 12 weeks paid vacation. I have seen Metallica a hundred times, I got a early jump Metallica since I have been a Metallica  fan since October 3oth, 1982, my favorite band at this-era was Mercyful Fate, when i purchased a Metallica “No Life Til Leather” 1st pressing/ version cassette at a METAL ONLY record shoppe, Las Vegas had Molten Metal Records & The Record Gallery & San Francisco had the Record Vault….. will have to check the scrap books, and do a ticket stub count and I have seen Halloween a Billion times, and Seduce a Million times, and L.A. Guns whoa…way to many to counts, but i am proud to alwasys go out of my way to see L.A Guns live, one of the best live bands on planet metal, and they have the best fan base in all of music, just positive vibes, and one of the most down to earth coolest bands to see after the show, when hanging out with the fans for autographs…etc. Glad to see the Tracii Guns, Philip Lewis, Shane Fitzgibbon, Johnny Martin, Micheal Grant-era of the band immortalized on DVD, since it is one of my favorite-eras of L.A.Guns, been a L.A. Guns true fan since the debut album era, Just something about the bands charisma and stage presence and metallic musician-ship that really resonated with me since the band has ton and tons of authenticity. Those new to heavy metal you have to check out L.A. Guns with Micheal Grant, singing Prince’s “Purple Rain”. Which is a mind-blowing, spine chilling, jaw dropping song, just to fucking bad it did not make this album. Fuck yea. I was a 1st day buyer of this album, you lost your mind or had a stroke or something if you thought one of the greatest live bands of all-time, L.A Guns would not grace these pages. This DVD is so important the heavy metal history i am expecting L.A. Guns “Live In Milan” to win the DVD of the year in 2018

Since KICK ASS METAL is a Gothic Metal-age/ Avant-Garde Metal-age and a Death Metal age publication since February 24th 1994, and  before that July 27th 1990 and before that July 1st 1987 and before that July 15th 1969. Cradle of Filth/ Celtic Frost/ Deicide and Coven with Jinx Dawson, are the main cornerstones, of this publication.

With that in mind, everyone knows that as Gothic Metal fans we love traditional metal, so of course we love “The Black Book”, “To Hellion and Back” and “Karma’s a Bitch” but the album that has been in heavy is the darker and heavier “Will Not Go Quietly” I have been digging around the fanzines who were around circa 2003, before the print media age could not compete with the emerging webZines.

Hellion is stamped all over these pages, and we discussed the whole career of Ann Boleyn. and deicded that she is a HEAVY METAL LEGEND IN 4 DECADES as well as the 20th and 21st Centuries. The hardest vote (i was being THE elitist….)  was about the “Screams in The Night”  LP.

Any how Ann Bolyen has a amazing life and hope someday she writes a book about it all!!! Something like that would rule beyond belief.

Hellion was formed in 1982 by vocalist Ann Boleyn. Ever since, the siren has been casting spells with her unique brand of metal. Successfully proving that she’s nowhere near “Dead and Gone,” the band’s current line-up is its strongest ever. Comprised of Boleyn, drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, Queensryche, Dio), Scott Warren (Heaven and Hell, Dio), lead guitarist Maxxxwell Carlisle, rhythm guitarist Georg Dolivo (Rhino Bucket), and bassist Greg Smith (Rainbow, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent), Hellion is back in a big way.

Hellion recently completed recording with renowned producer Ken Scott, author of “From Ziggy Stardust to Abbey Road,” and with engineer Wyn Davis, whose credits include Heaven And Hell, Dio, and Foreigner.

Having produced five David Bowie albums and engineered several Beatles albums, renowned producer Ken Scott explains, “The one constant thing about Hellion is Ann, and her incredible voice.” He adds, ““What makes Ann special is her uniqueness. I’ve never heard another female vocalist that’s anything else like Ann.”

A brand of her own, Ronnie James Dio took Boleyn under his wing upon hearing a cassette of a live show. After showing up at Hellion’s rehearsal, Dio became a mentor. Dio would end up producing a number of recordings for Hellion at the legendary Sound City Recording Studio.

Hellion was initially comprised of guitarist Ray Schenck, Sean Kelley on drums and bassist Peyton Tuthill, with its line-up changing several times over the years.

The band’s debut gig was on July 4, 1982, with its members taking turns on vocals. Boleyn remembers of the band live debut, “It was at my house in Tujunga. It was affectionately called the Annieville Horror House, because it was a very famous haunted house there. It was written about in a number of newspapers. In the ‘70s, they used to have college groups go out and do ghost hunting sweeps. It had a pretty notorious reputation.”

Like many other bands at that time, Hellion started out by playing covers, favoring rock’s hardest artists. “At the time,” says Ann, “I was a Hammond player. A lot of people had the opinion that the sound of the Hammond was reminiscent of Seventies rock. In the early ‘80s, that was a bad thing because heavy music was becoming more centered around guitar.”

Tuthill left the band in late 1982 to become a preacher. Boleyn’s alleged interest in the occult was blamed as the reason for Tuthill’s departure.

Hellion recorded a demo a year later, which Boleyn eventually released on ‘Bongus Loadus’ Records. In late 1983, two more songs were added to the demo, which was released as a Mini-LP in early 1984.

Hellion’s self-titled mini album promptly propelled Hellion into the spotlight by the end of 1983. It rose to Number 6 on the UK rock charts, and was lauded by metal magazines internationally. Hellion was declared as having the Number 4 Single of the Year by the venerated Kerrang! magazine.

1986’s Screams in the Night further secured Boleyn’s reputation as the quintessential female dark metal vocalist.

Venturing to the studio again, but now with Angelo Arcuri, who had engineered the first three Dio albums, even more success would brew, resulting from Hellion’s “Postcards from the Asylum” EP.

Despite their indie status, Hellion’s revamp of the Judas Priest song “Exciter” and their ominous track “The Evil One” both secured airplay on over 120 stations in the US.

With fans that included many rock stars, Boleyn founded New Renaissance Records in 1985, making her the first woman to successfully own and run an internationally distributed heavy metal label. From 1982 to the present, Boleyn’s label released albums from a stable of about 65 bands.

By the late 1980s, Hellion was poised for major success with album deals not only in England, Europe, and Japan, but a contract through Enigma Records and distribution promised through Capital Records. When Enigma later dissolved, the contract was taken over by Restless Records imprint Medusa Records for US distribution.
By the early 1990s, Restless began to have financial problems. The cancellation of metal radio shows and television shows such as MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball impacted the entire metal community. Despite this, Restless Records released Hellion’s 11-track Black Book in 1990. That classic Hellion line-up featured Ann with Rex Tennyson on bass, guitarist Alan Barlam, Sean Kelley on drums.
Hellion was never just a studio act, as their live performances became noted as memorable to those watching them on stage, fronted by Boleyn’s dramatic vocals and delivery.
In 1991, Hellion made history by appearing on the first Monsters of Rock Festival in the former USSR, and by being the first hard rock or metal US act to tour to the former USSR.

When asked about Hellion’s most memorable concerts, Boleyn also recalls opening for Dio and Whitesnake in 1984 on Dio’s “Last In Line” tour.

“Growing up, I was a huge fan of Deep Purple and of David Coverdale. Obviously I also had tremendous respect for Dio’s work with Rainbow, and especially in Black Sabbath. There were a lot of saysayers in those early days who thought that a female could never hold her own on a bill with singers like Dio and Coverdale. I remember looking to one side of the stage and see Ronnie, and the other side of the stage, seeing Dave Coverdale, and both of them giving me signs of approval, that was very special.”

Fans never lost interest in Boleyn, so more releases followed, including 1999’s release of “The Witching Hour.”

A compilation featuring 12 of Boleyn’s works can be heard on her “Queen of Hell” album, and nine Hellion tracks are included on the collection “Up From The Depths.”

The next Hellion release was the aptly titled “Will Not Go Quietly” in 2003.

When it came to the metal world, Boleyn may have been out of sight, but not out of mind when she obtained a Germanic languages degree from UCLA, and later a law degree. In 2007, Détente invited Boleyn to join the band, taking place of Dawn Crosby, who had passed away. Boleyn performed with Détente from 2007 until 2009,

Being a savvy entrepreneur and musician, Boleyn has turned down many offers that she feels could have tainted the Hellion legacy. In 2010, following Ronnie James Dio’s death, Boleyn turned down an offer of nearly a quarter-million dollars to tour Japan and record a tribute to the late Ronnie James Dio along together with an all-star line-up.

Boleyn commented, “I love performing in Japan. But, there will never be another Ronnie James Dio. I felt really uncomfortable about receiving this kind of offer, especially because Ronnie had just passed away. I meant no disrespect to our friends in Japan when I turned down the offer.”

One of dark metal’s most beloved singers, Boleyn is noted in many books including “Ronnie James Dio: A Photographic Memoir” and in Ken Scott’s “From Ziggy Stardust to Abbey Road.”

In June of 2013, Boleyn announced that she was working on new Hellion tracks. Experience has taught Boleyn “Don’t Take No For An Answer,” as she continues to inspire new generations of rock fans. With an evolving musical vision, the driving heavy rock and metal sound of Hellion makes it clear that Boleyn is still an exciter.

In addition to a strong foundation of legacy followers, Hellion continues to catch the ear of new fans, as women continue to prove they can capture a metal audience, offering talent as well as mystique.

In April of 2014, Hellion released a 2-CD anthology entitled “To Hellion And Back,” which is available in the UK and Europe on HNE/Cherry Red and in the US on New Renaissance Records in the US.

Hellion’s first offering of new songs, a five-song Mini-LP entitled “Karma’s A Bitch” is set for release on October 7th………………

“HELLION-Karma’s A Bitch (HNE Recordings)
“This is a five tracker with new HELLION material. You know, the band of Ann Boleyn. It runs for twenty-plus minutes and opens with “Betrayer”. The dark intro will remind you of BLACK SABBATH in the DIO-era. When Simon Wright hits the drums, he hits it hard and you can’t stop banging your head. This is the real deal. The power, the force, the dynamics… Oops, there goes the front window of our house. Well, never mind. Let your neighbors enjoy it, too. If JUDAS PRIEST is your favorite band, then you will love this. It’s US metal written in capitols. The double leads are there as well. What an opener! The fading out could very well come from the metal gods of PRIEST, too. Next up, it’s time for the title track, called “Karma’s A Bitch”, which is more in the DIO style. It sounds a bit melodic with the great vocals of Ann as big ear catchers. The keyboards also play a subtle role in the background. They are being played by yet another former DIO band member, namely Scott Warren. No wonder, that you will recognize some of the influences of the master himself on this new HELLION release. Now, raise your fists in the air and sing along to the mighty chorus of “Hell Has No Fury”. It has that very recognizable sound, which will make you think that you know this song for years already. In “Watch The City Burn”, Ann also plays the keyboards. The intro gives you the idea, that you’re in for something special, something really heavy and something pounding. The guitar solo cranks it up and your head slowly begins to bang. Move it up and down to the rhythm of the beat, baby. The wild drum beats of Simon will get you “Rockin’ ‘Till The End”, which is another great US metal song with an old school vibe. The rhythm is fast, the solos are loud and they will explode from your speakers. HELLION will sure get the old school music back, if nobody else does it. The album sounds like it has been written in the mid-eighties. I think, that the real metal fan will know enough by now. If not, you must be reading the wrong website. A few members of the band are mentioned already in the review, but the full line-up of HELLION is Ann Boleyn on vocals, Maxxxwell Carlisle on guitar, Bjorn Englen on bass, Scott Warren on keyboards and Simon Wright on drums. I really hope, that somebody will get out of his lazy chair and get and this band over to Europe very soon. Do you understand that???? Website: http://www.hellion.us. “Karma’s A Bitch” will receive the full score of course, there’s no doubt about it. Don’t forget to check out the mighty compilation album “To Hellion And Back” as well, for those who want to listen to the old stuff of this phenomenal old school US metal band. HELLIONIn our Back To The Past series, we take you back to L.A., California ’82. HELLION started as a cover band, playing the favourite tunes from big names such as OZZY OSBOURNE, THE SCORPIONS and AC/DC. Leading lady Ann Boleyn played keyboards back then, but after some time she took over the vocals very successfully. Today, everybody will remember her as the mysterious front lady of HELLION. Besides singing, she started to show her talents as a songwriter as well.

In ’83 HELLION was nominated best metal band of L.A. by Streetzine magazine. In that very same year, they also released their first single on Mystic Records. This resulted in a deal with Music For Nations and the release of their first mini album “Hellion”. Six fast and furiuos metal tracks showed that Ann was ready for the big success. HELLION then consisted of Sean Kelly (drums), Bill Sweet (bass), Ray Schenck (guitar), Alan Barlam (guitar) and of course Ann Boleyn on vocals.England is the first country to discover Ann’s talent and in ’84 the band played at the world famous Marquee club. Perhaps it was a bit too quick to cross the ocean. The band couldn’t even afford to stay in a proper hotel. So they had to sleep on the floor, take their instruments to the different venues by public transport, etc. During these events Ray Schenk even broke the neck of his favourite guitar, an Explorer, which once belonged to KISS’s Paul Stanley. Despite of these starting problems, it couldn’t stop Ann from going on. Even Wendy and Ronnie James Dio got interested in HELLION. The band recorded some new demos, but where others bands got signed, things just didn’t work out for HELLION. The band collapsed and the ex-members of HELLION put together the band BURN. Ann recruits some new members to record “Screams In The Night”, the first full-length album. On this one you’ll hear Alex Campbell (ex-LYON) on bass, Greg Pecka (ex-DOKKEN) on drums and Chet Thompson on guitar. Chet is a former student of the late Randy Rhoads. Just have a listen to the great guitar work on “Screams In The Night”, especially the “Upside Down Guitar Solo” and you’ll know what I mean. The 5 track demo, made for the album also contained two unreleased tracks, namely “Morning Star” and “The Witching Hour”. What could stop Ann from the big success with such an album? Well, it was the band wanting to pursue a much more commercial sound. This against the will of Ann, who wanted to continue the heavy metal direction of HELLION. We’ll find the name of Chet Thompson back in ALICE IN THUNDERLAND, who released a self-titled debut mini album. The band also featured Emi Canyn. She did some backing vocals for MÖTLEY CRÜE as well. But besides the mini album, this outfit never brought Chet the success, he earned.

And Ann? She started up a whole new line-up. Well, ‘new’ isn’t the right word, ’cause we find the old line-up from their debut mini album back on their new one “Postcards From The Asylum”. Four tracks, which shows the progression of HELLION as a heavy metal band. Bringing back the names of Sean Kelly, Ray Schenk and Alan Barlam and introducing us to the new bass player Dave Dutton. Not even a glimpse of commerciality is to be found on this four pieces of pure metal. The pounding version of the JUDAS PRIEST cover “Exciter” proved that HELLION was ready for some action again. Ann however, saw this release only as a kind of reunion, just for fun. But a lot of people acted very enthusiasticly and in ’88 a tour through Europe is being scheduled. Two concerts in Holland followed with only about a hundred visitors per show (u.w. the author of this story!) was the poor result. And good shows they were, I can assure you! But unfortunately, something stopped Ann from taking the world by storm.

1989 starts with a new line-up (again). Ann decides to take total control of business. She sets up her own label, New Renaissance Records, so she’ll never have to explain again why she’s not moving to a more commercial direction. On the last album “The Black Book” we find back again almost all the old names, even Chet Thompson.New are the contributions of Rex Tennyson on bass and Kenny Andrews on guitars. It was in ’89/’90, when Ann gets fascinated by the stories of the ancient Boleyn family members. The story goes back to Thornhill (Moffat), Scotland. Ann finds out her family possessed magical powers……..the powers of the Stormriders (third song on the album). They were believed to be able to control the mind of other people. All these interesting stories were put together as songs on “The Black Book” album, but they were also captured in a manuscript (which was never officially put out). The USSR was the country, that would gladly release Ann’s stories. Reason enough to go on tour there. HELLION is still quite popular in the USSR. “The Black Book” is a concept album, which again shows the progression of Ann’s songwriting, filled up with some short Scottish narrations. When you grab this album out of the dust and listen to it once again, you must admit that this is another great metal album. HELLION also plays a mighty fine version of LED ZEPPELIN’s “Immigrant Song” on “The Black Book”. Why was there never a follow-up to it? It’s almost likely Ann Boleyn disappeared from this planet. After two mini albums and two full-length releases, the story of HELLION seems to have come to an end. I just can’t believe that Ann Boleyn has left the music industry. We’re trying to get you updated on what she has been up to in the past five years. What a sad ending for a band that was really gaining popularity all over the world. Touring with huge names like DIO, WASP and WHITESNAKE. What went wrong?? Anyone who can provide this information, please write to us. The last thing we know, is that Ann Boleyn was head of New Renaissance Records in ’91. We’re also looking for a copy of the Black Book (that is the book, not the album!). HELLION and Ann Boleyn. Are they screaming in the night? Do we get a postcard from the asylum in the near future or is she writing a new black book? Questions, questions, but hopefully we’ll be able to answer them in the near future.

UPDATE 2/5/2008 …..Ann and the band went on a mini tour 2002-2003 and released “Will Not Go Quietly” in 2003. Ann will be touring this upcoming year with DETENTE – the band, that Dawn Crosby (R.I.P) made famous.—- WRITE UP IF FROM MetalMaidenS webZine and here under fair use, since this article is called HEAVY METAL BIBLE CHAPTER HELLION

With a newfound energy and the enthusiasm of the then-imminent release of “The Missing Peace”, L.A. GUNS stormed onto the stage in Milan, Italy for the 2017 edition of the Frontiers Rock Festival and took absolutely no prisoners, packing the set front to back with stone-cold classics and soon-to-be classics.

Prior to “The Missing Peace”, the last time Lewis and Guns joined forces was back in 2000 with legendary producer Andy Johns for the making of what would become “Waking The Dead”.

Speaking with Express & Star, Tracii said: “With Phil and I in particular, we have a certain chemistry that’s undeniable. And, you know, when you’re at your loneliest, you wanna go home, right? So, we both felt like it was time to go home and be comfortable with that undeniable relationship that we have musically. I mean, right away, the first time we got back together and played, you know, it’s so obvious, you can’t deny it. At some point in your life, you can’t deny what’s real.”

Regarding the sound of the new L.A. GUNS material, Tracii said: “Phil’s vocal style and his way of writing kind of offsets that balance of the heavy music, that’s something that’s possibly more mainstream or identifiable, so there’s a lot of, you know, kind of typical sleazy L.A. GUNS, high-energy riff rock. There’s a little bit of sloppy New Orleans, kind of sweaty, kind of bluesier stuff too. It’s a big record.”

Earlier in the month, guitarist Michael Grant left L.A. GUNS “to pursue other interests, including his solo project, MICHAEL GRANT & THE ASSASSINS,” according to a statement from L.A. GUNS. A replacement guitarist has not yet been announced.

As soon as the start of the GOTHIC AND SYMPHONIC BLACK METAL wave started to happen with the 1st 3rd and the Mortal dem0, the 1st Atrox album….well go back in history and buy some 1990’s heavy metal magazines….for metal’s first 43 years, heavy metal fans had to rely on specialized press, until the webzine era happened in 2003, keep in mind, no one should trust a album review, from a webZine THAT NEVER HAD A PRINT EDITION, back during the golden age of heavy metal journalism 1981-1986 for Traditional Metal 1988-2003 for extreme metal, which is know as true metal. So for the actual metal media, those that had print editions, this album appears no where in the heavy metal bibles, the print editions that will make-up the future heavy metal bibles history books of the future.

I started as a heavy metal fan in 1978, when there was only 1 style of heavy metal. HEAVY METAL. I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, so i got to absorb everything from the brilliant Glam and Thrash Metal movements, after the collapse of the NWOBHM style. Trust me as a metal fan who shopped at specialized METAL ONLY record shops, back in 1982 the store owners supported the heavier end of the metal spectrum. And I went to a METAL ONLY specialized record store yesterday, and ecstatic to see this on the shelves selling fast fast.

L@@king at the ranking board, Susperia RANK VERY HIGH AT KICK ASS METAL over all the over-rate stuffs championed by the webZines who were never around during the fanzine-era of heavy metal. And the aspect that keeps bands high on our RANKING top 100 to top 700 bands of all-time, is just heavy metal bands who play heavy metal, and never caved-in the the temptation of the lucrative hard rock/genre…aka arena hard rock/ corporate rock.

There are 1,300 genres in music, and we cover the heavy metal genre, as a GOTHIC/ DEATH METAL/ AVANT-GARDE-era publication, this is our zeitgeist since February 24th, 1994/ July 27th, 1990/ November 1st, 1987.  But back before this era was the heavy metal-era, gothics and avant-garde metal maniacs had to get our fix of the darkside, from THRASH METAL, and some choice DOOM METAL selections, as well as digging throw our soundtracks and classical music collections. There is music to find all-over the world that will send chills up-and-down-your-spine, blow your mind, and to get floored from. Susperia just rules. I wanted to say just like the band Oz “Transition State” from Last Year, They had a top 100 album in 2017. It is 2018 and now it is AGAIN Susperia’s turn for the 6th time to be on our TOP 100 albums list.

2001, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2018. And like with Oz, i really enjoy the new vocalist, and glad to see a new Susperia album, especially in 2018 since HEAVY METAL Has been in a GOLDEN AGE OF TRUE METAL SINCE — May 24th 2012 and August 1st 2012, when Abnormality and Nervosa raised the bar in heavy metal, in terms of heaviness/ authenticity / originality.

People who i meet on the streets and in the record stores scream and demand that we cover thrash metal, so i subjectively and objectively give the fans what they want. But personally 40 percent of the classics in heavy metal history come from Norway and over half of my collection of the timeless masterpieces are from that part of the World, so we try to give coverage to the albums that give us the most evocation.

The Golden Age of Gothic/ Death/ Avant-Garde Metal, for these pages is January 1st 1993 to July 27th, 2003 and Superia were a big part of that era on November 1st, 2001 when they relesase the all-time classic “Predominance”, which was unleashed on Planet Metal on November 1st 2001 during the Golden Age of the subject matter of this publication, we cover all of metal’s golden ages, because each one has its top 100 / top 150 artist and top 700 albums from it’s respective era. And being a GOLDEN AGE OF TRUE METAL, Susperia has albums in 2 different GOLDEN AGES of Heavy Metal, it is for mind-blowing achievements like that. The Heavy Metal Bible needs to have a chapter.

Heavy Metal Bible Chapter Susperia.

This album Susperia “The Lyricist” will get tons and tons of plays of paylist rotation in the KICK ASS METAL offices as well as my personal stereo at home, for heavy rotation it will be tons of spins between Testament “The Legacy” and Onslaught “In Search of Sanity”. This album rules, and Susperia will keep its high as fuck ranking here at KICK ASS METAL, Susperia is just 17 years on one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all-time….!!!!!! As a journalist for sure i go bonkers for my subjective favorites, but i also can just look at the actual facts of a band and give them the respect you deserve. TOP 100 HEAVY METAL album in one of the most exciting years in the histroy genre, it is a great time to be a insane metallic maniac metal fanatic….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
