Archives for posts with tag: ALBUM OF THE YEAR 2017

This is a write-up that appeared on BraveWords the Canadian answer to RoadrunneR/Blabbermouth news Serivce. We picked up this article and added a new layout at parts the original appears on BraveWords, and we encourage everyone to read and listen to the bands we cover here, we have always had a ear for the best of the best in World-Class Heavy Metal, and EDGE OF PARADISE IS ONE OF OUR MOST FAVORITE BANDS OF THE LAST 5 to 6 years ….!!!!

“They’re very hard songs to sing. Sometimes I’m thinking, what the hell was I thinking? Why am I putting myself through this? But I really love these songs, and I really love singing live,” says Edge Of Paradise vocalist Margarita Monet, talking about her band’s brand new EP titled Alive.

Alive is the third release from California based industrial metal outfit Edge Of Paradise. After releasing two previous full-length albums: Mask (2011) and Immortal Waltz (2015), Margarita, along with her bandmates Dave Bates (guitar), John Chominsky (drums), and Nick Ericson (bass) opted to record a five-song EP as opposed to another full-length album for reasons which she explains. “Honestly, it’s due to budgeting because we pay for everything ourselves. We didn’t want to wait too long to release another album, we wanted to keep the momentum going. Also, we want to make sure every single song is as great as possible production-wise to compete with the bigger bands out there. And all these songs (on Alive) have a common theme to them; it felt like a good package to present to the world.”

Does Alive fall under the category of concept record? “Maybe… it has a message to it. Every song deals with a different issue, but they all explore the modern day way of living and how we get so caught up in it that we forget we’re actually alive; our humanity and that sort of stuff.” It seems that everybody is glued to their screen these days – be it their phone, tablet, or computer – that’s all they’re concerned about and sadly, everything happening around them in the real world is missed. “Even at concerts, people watch it through their phone,” laments Margarita. “Being in a band, I have to be on my phone all the time because everything is through the Internet nowadays. But I’m not a person who would take selfies every other minute – I hate that.”

The aforementioned desire for top-notch production led Edge Of Paradise to assemble an all-star team to work on Alive: producer Chuck Johnson (Korn, Slipknot) was joined by Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Steel Panther), Mike Plotnikoff (Buckcherry, Fear Factory), and Michael Wagener (Metallica, Alice Cooper) on the mix. The question beckons, why enlist three different mixers for five songs? “Michael Wagener is part of the team; he produced our last CD Immortal Waltz, and we wanted to have him on this as well. ‘Mystery’ is a ballad and Michael’s the king of ballads; it was awesome that he could mix that for us. We started working with Jay Ruston, but he was working with Stone Sour and we had a deadline, so we were introduced to Mike Plotnikoff – he’s amazing, and he’s ten minutes away from us; that worked out really well. ‘Dust To Dust’ and ‘Humanoid’, the songs that he mixed, he really put his stamp on it and elevated them to a new level. We didn’t plan this but everything fell into place and we couldn’t be happier with it.”

“Mystery” really sticks out because of the piano part, and the fact that it’s a ballad when the other four songs on Alive are heavier in nature. “I’ve played piano my whole life so I wanted to incorporate that,” admits Margarita. “I play keyboards on all the songs. I like to play around with sounds and now the music is more industrial, I feel really comfortable playing this sort of stuff. I was happy we had a song I could do that on.” When it comes to the live setting, will the piano and keyboards be tracks that are played from the soundboard? “If the stage is big enough I’ll probably play it live, and then throughout the song we’ll have the track come in. I sometimes will incorporate the keyboard live; I’m not stuck behind it, sometimes I play during the guitar solos. But as we move along, I think we might actually get a keyboard player.”

Returning to the studio, Margarita recalls laying down the music that came to be the Alive EP. “We recorded ‘Shade Of Crazy’ probably six months ago, but we didn’t get the distribution deal (with ILS / Universal) until four months ago; that accelerated the process because we had to get it done. We had the songs written, but recording them is another thing because our songs are very layered. It takes us about a month to record a song and make it really good. We had to rush this a little bit so all in all, it took us about six months to finish everything – with a little break in the middle cause we went on tour. We went to different studios; we recorded at Clear Lakes, we also recorded at Terence’s Studio out in Thousand Oaks – wherever we could get into we went. We have a little studio at home where we demo everything… it’s a pain in the ass when you go to different studios. It’s such a headache to edit the files and make sure everything is in the right place. I wish we could just go to one place and do the whole record there. Being a new band, you have to deal with all this stuff; but I learned my Pro Tools.” Speaking of “Shade Of Crazy”, one just has to ask, what shade of crazy are you? “Oh god! Many shades of crazy… to be doing this, you have to be crazy right. I’m actually pretty normal, but everyone has their different sides. I show my crazy side on stage – there you go.”

Thus far two videos have been filmed to promote Alive, both of which can be seen below. One for “Shade Of Crazy” and one for the title track. Margarita enjoyed those experiences, yet describes them as “a pain in the ass, honestly. We had to do everything ourselves – build our sets, make our costumes – but it was cool to be in control of it. We had a lot of fun doing it, but it’s so much work making videos. I hope that we’re going to make more for these songs cause we could come up with some cool concepts.”

The artwork that adorns Alive, pictured above and created by Timo Wuerz, is rather striking. “He made it just for us, he’s amazing! Timo did the cover for our last CD Immortal Waltz, he was introduced to us by our previous label Pure Steel in Germany. When it came time for this CD, he had to do it. I didn’t want to tell him exactly what I wanted. We just told him kind of what the music is about and let him come up with it, because it’s always good to have someone else’s perspective. He sent us a bunch of different sketches and we went with this painting.”

In closing, Margarita looks both back and forward. Compared to the previous Edge Of Paradise albums Mask and Immortal Waltz, Alive “is a whole new world, another planet. It’s another level for us. It’s a natural evolution. Mask sounds like a different band because I didn’t write any of the songs. I consider Immortal Waltz our debut CD. And Alive really showcases the potential of the band. We’ve grown as musicians and as people; I’m a more mature vocalist and songwriter now. As a singer you never stop evolving.”

For the future, “the goal is to tour as much as we can and keep recording music.” Margarita’s dream tour package would include “Rammstein, Korn, and Rob Zombie; those bands with us right in the middle.” Those acts have pretty elaborate stage shows, something Edge Of Paradise aspires to, assuming the budget allows. “Yes, we have an elaborate show – as much as we can. The bigger the budget, the bigger the show; trust me. That’s one thing I really love about rock shows is how visual you can make them. Our music is kind of theatrical so I want to have the visuals to back it up. We already do to a certain extent, I just want it to keep evolving into a bigger, more stunning visual. We want to make the show an experience for people and draw them into our world.”

FULL SCORE

“I loved Edge of Paradise’s 2015 album Immortal Waltz so I was very excited to hear their new album Alive. I wasn’t disappointed. The album starts with the title track, which picks up right where Immortal Waltz left off. However, that doesn’t mean there are no surprises. Far from it, the Alive album sees EOP experimenting with new sounds, heavier and more industrial.

Regardless, the opening song “Alive” highlights all of EOP’s strengths: urgent and otherworldly vocals, in the tradition of Ronnie James Dio, from Margarita Monet; compelling rhythms from bassist Nick Ericson and drummer John Chominsky; and major riffage from guitarist Dave Bates. The guitar is actually a major plus of EOP; unlike some other bands in the genre, EOP has a classic guitar-driven sound. You can check this out in the video for “Alive,” where Dave is looking cool leaning against the wall and showing off his mastery of the instrument, starting at about 2:06. Margarita also looks fabulous in this video (as always), and I dig her female Rob Halford outfit. I hope she wears it on stage. (As a digression, EOP are fantastic live. Be sure to check them out if you have the chance. They will soon start a U.S. tour to support the Alive album, and they will also appear at the FemME festival in the Netherlands in September, with Delain.)

“Alive” also has a cool message. As explained by Margarita, the song “is dealing with us humans being so caught up in the digital world, obsessed with convenience and monetary gain, we have begun to sacrifice our humanity. We are becoming corporate led consumer machines! We get lost in the enticing virtual reality that we forget what real human interaction feels like. Break away from bombardment of advertisements, social standards, never ending race with time and just breathe, and remember what it’s like to feel alive! To connect with our fellow humans and the world!” That sentiment echoes the message of my favorite EOP song, “Break Away.”

The next song on Alive, “Dust to Dust,” is where EOP’s industrial experimentation really starts. The music, beat, and even Margarita’s voice sound more Marilyn Manson than Ronnie James Dio on this song. But it’s still really good! “Be who you wanna be, feel what you wanna feel, love how you wanna love,” Margarita chants to a club beat. Great stuff.

Next up is the album’s ballad, “Mystery,” about the tragedy and beauty of life, the universe, and everything. Margarita is a lifelong pianist so piano ballads like this come naturally to her, and are well suited to the softer side of her voice.

After that is the album’s other released single and video, “Shade of Crazy.” This song represents a heavier version of the band’s classic sound and is probably my favorite on the album. I could lose myself forever in the fast drums and seductive vocals starting at about 1:50. I can’t complain about Margarita’s amazing hair and look in the video either.

The album finishes with “Humanoid,” another Mansonesque industrial song. It works well. But sadly that’s the end. Alive is just a 5-song EP. Hopefully another full length will soon follow. In the meantime, I will wear out the bits on my phone’s flash drive re-listening to Alive. I highly recommend it!

You can learn more about Edge of Paradise on their Facebook and webpage. Also be sure to check out Alive’s nice cover art, by artist Timo Wuerz, who also did Immortal Waltz.”

TOP 100 HARD ROCK/ HEVY METAL ALBUMS OF ALL-TIME

….Edge of Paradise has 4 ALBUMS on the top 100 Hard Rock/Albums of all-time….not bad huh?

Usually this feature is to mock and make fun of the poor journalism at BNR METAL PAGES or METAL ARCHIVES.

Since Edge of Paradise has no pages over there Today were going to point out the incorrect score at RoadrunneR’s / Blabbermouth news service.

It received a 8 out of 10 today over at RoadrunneR/ Blabbermouth, the review was professional and courteous. And said some pretty flattering things. But put the band at the 8 out of 10 strata, in college a 8 out of 10 is a B-. And the reason I do these collector corner articles. Lets see

WHAT I WOULD OF GOT ROBBED OUT OF….If I listened to some this, who has no clue what he is talking about.

I own 8 Copies of “Mask”

8 * 15 = $120

I own 8 copies of “Immortal Waltz”

8 * 15 = $120

I seen Edge of Pardise live and they are a TOP 10 LIVE BAND OF ALL-TIME, I have been a concert-goer since 1982 !!!

And average 320 concerts a year from 1986-1997. I worked for Booking Agencies and concert theatres complexes. And average 120 a year since I stopped working for Booking Agencies.

I go to the record shoppes 123 times a year since 1982. None of this is bragging. I am trying to make the points, Since all Edge of Paradise albums are TIMELESS MASTERPIECES and KICK ASS METAL’S #2 — SECOND GREATEST LIVE BAND OF ALL-TIME — The Greatest Live Band of all-time is Hanzel Und Gretyl, and I will not reveal the aspect of the actual aesthetics of this historic fact…!!!

Okay $240 for CD’s + 10 Dollars a concert ticket + 15 for a tShirt.

$265 Dollars. And seeing Edge of Paradise LIVE …. can not put a price tag on this, whoa, Edge of Paradise are the coolest down to earth nicest people I have meet, and there fans are the best, nothing put brotherhood and positive vibes.

So with this bad review score of a 8 out of 10, I consider this like this dude is trying to take the $265 dollars, that I spent on Edge of Paradise and steal it from me…!!! Because if you believe that low score.

YOUR GETTTING ROBBED OUT OF OWING 4 OF THE BEST WORLD-CLASS ALBUMS OF ALL-TIME, and seeing ONE OF THE GREATEST HARD ROCK/HEAVY METAL BNAD OF ALL-TIME LIVE IN CONCERT !!!!!!!!!!!!

Learn to question the bad scores, of top-notch hard rock / heavy metal albums….!!!

For those not up on WORLD-CLASS HARD ROCK/ HEAYV METAL.

Edge of Paradise has a # 1 WORLD- WIDE Ranking here @ KICK ASS METAL for the category for hard rock/ heavy metal. For those who do not know the meaning of the phrase # 1 World-Wide Ranking. It means they are

THE GREATEST HARD ROCK/ HEAVY METAL band in their category ….THE GREATEST HARD ROCK / HEAVY METAL BAND IN THE WORLD at this time in World-Class Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal History !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the blurb for the above photo

Edge Of Paradise‘s new album was released today. Congrats to them for making #1 on Amazon hard rock/metal. If sales keep up, they may make Billboard too, which would be well deserved: “I loved Edge of Paradise’s 2015 album Immortal Waltz so I was very excited to hear their new album Alive. I wasn’t disappointed. The album starts with the title track, which picks up right where Immortal Waltz left off. However, that doesn’t mean there are no surprises. Far from it, the Alive album sees EOP experimenting with new sounds, heavier and more industrial. Rating 10/10.” Click for our full review.

I loved Edge of Paradise’s 2015 album Immortal Waltz so I was very excited to hear their new album Alive.

Also be sure to check out Alive’s nice cover art, by artist Timo Wuerz, who also did Immortal Waltz.

I also want to add at this point that Timo Wuerz won the 2017 ALBUM COVER OF THE YEAR ….!!!!

Also I wanted to add at this point I have been keeping track as a heavy metal fan since 1978 the greatest album of all-time and when I became a fan of World-Class Female Fronted Heavy Metal, we have a person of the year ever year and Margarita Monet is a 3 TIME KICK*ASS*METAL PERSON OF THE YEAR WINNER. There is also a Norwegian Person of the year. Since this publication is a Specialized Press for Norwegian Gothic/Dark/Horror/Avant Garde Metal…so stay tuned for that announcement !!!!!!!!!!

Every Friday @ The KICK ASS METAL offices we have a pizza, beer, and listen to the top 25 — top 30 albums of all-time, and we discuss the future of this publication and the futures of hard rock/ heavy metal.

We are heavily on the World-Class Guitarist / Neo-Classical / Shred METAL side of things, and Dave Bates is the GOLD STANDARD for not only Hard Rock / But Heavy Metal also, and our favorite style of all-time Bay Area Thrash.

Edge of Paradise are the future of hard rock/ heavy metal. This is the band EVERY BAND ON THE PLANET has been judged against since April 2014. I am an Edge of Paradise fan between the “Mask” and “Immortal Waltz” era. I wish I was a 1st day fan of this band since their inception foundation back in February 2011.

Also I would like to point out that as a publication with the topic of WORLD-CLASS HEAVY METAL, that we are heavily on the World-Class Vocalist side of things, and Margarita Monet is a true one-in-a-billion World-Class Vocalist. So th0se who are now in Junior High School, High School, and want to be a member in a hard rock/ heavy metal band as the vocalist, this is the standard you must equal and if you ever achieve a higher level than Margarita Monet, just keep in mind Edge of Paradise also has in its ranks Dave Bates, Nick Ericson, and John Chominsky.

4 of California best World-Class musicians, in the same band.

Van Halen

Mötley Crüe

Metallica

Immortal Waltz

KICK*ASS*METAL’s 2015 ALBUM OF THE YEAR  – WINNER INTERNATIONAL – Category HARD ROCK

edegofparadiserulesplanetmetal2015albumoftheyear985789564856346221342341

Below is a RECORD REVIEW FROM ROBERT BRADY from the excellent Power of Prog. This place is called KICK*ASS*METAL, and if you see in the UPPER RIGHTT HAND CORNER, it says WORLD-CLASS HEAVY METAL. We cover all things WORLD-CLASS, and all things KICK*ASS.

For the GENRE THE BAND PLAYS IN on there official facebook presence it says HARD ROCK/ HEAVY METAL. And KICK*ASS*METAL has EDGE OF PARADISE ranked/ rated #1 WORLD-WIDE in heavier HARD ROCK for the 21st Century.

“….While they have the hallmarks of straight up classic hard rock in the vein of the Runaways, Girlschool and Wendy O Williams, they also have the modern sensibility of Kittie meets Nightwish and Epica. Edge Of Paradise also come with something that has been lacking in recent years, this being rock with attitude and street credibility.

Edge Of Paradise sounds like a cinematic soundtrack of carefully written and orchestrated rock with the tough garage rock attitude. Immortal Waltz has the pulse of true classic rock n roll. They have definitely created a work that they can tour on from various demographic’s within hard rock and heavy metal. When I listen to Immortal Waltz I hear a direction that bands of yesterday ie Girlschool, Runaways should sound like with a modern contemporary flavour. I also like the fact I can book Edge Of Paradise for Female Metal Voices while at the same time book them for a Rocklahoma style festival. Let’s take a brief look at Edge Of Paradise Immortal Waltz.

Perfect Shades Of Black starts in the vein of a soundtrack before the band and Margarita Monet really take off at the :29 mark. There is a nice spoken word passage at the :51 mark. The track from the get go has a lot of spunky angst and attitude. The instrumental is more heavy metal while the vocals have a tasteful old school vibe. Dave Bates has a killer guitar solo on this as well. There are some good solid backing vocals towards the end.

It’s My Showtime begins with a great rhythmic progression. Soon Margarita Monet comes in almost in a jazz standard styling of a Jane Monhiet with a eloquent spoken word passage. The vocals gibe the listener the appearance of naughty teen angst. The vocal layers are very solid. The instrumental have of this reminds me a lot of a cinematic soundtrack. There is a alternative sensibility about this track in a haunting way. The guitar solo is a straight away classic.

Immortal Waltz begins with a haunting passage liken one of a dark rock opera gone towards a film score standard. The piano adds a nice layer to the track. The thunderous rhythmic section gives this a brutal dark atmosphere. The spoken word vocal seems to be shaping a signature for the bands identity within the album. About the 2:44 mark there are some great spoken word effects complimenting the instrumental.

In A Dream starts with a great rhythm section with a great dark rhythm guitar section. The vocal is soft yet subtle before it explodes into a straight up classic symphonic metal passage. This track reminds me of very early Theater Of Tragedy without the death metal growls. There is a strong emphasis between a semi spoken word with a cinematic film vibe.

Rise For The Fallen begins with a straight away melodic metal instrumental with a solid keyboard as a accent to the intro. The band never stays in one mode. This takes on all the hallmarks that make a classic hard rock / heavy metal track. You have a great intro with some killer verse and chorus progressions.

Ghost takes on almost a dark power ballad. It has a haunting intro. A solid rhythm section with good quality vocal oriented rock. The solo reminds me very much of heavy metal solos of the 1980’s that were a staple in hard rock and heavy metal. Ghost is a track with a light pop sensibility.

Break Away takes on almost a Dio-esque vibe in the intro. This continues with the rhythm section and vocal almost in the vein of Holy Diver by Dio. John Cominsky has some killer drum passages to serve as the backbone to the rhythmic based sections. Magarita Monet has such a confidence in her vocal by now and it is showing.

Goodbye has a 1990’s alternative hard rock sensibility. This also has a great hammond organ to vintage mellotron sound in the underlying stringed section. The vocal has a sassy spoken word passage about it giving the track attitude. There are some good solid yet subtle breaks in the track both lyrically and instrumentally.

Edge Of Paradise are a band that comes around once every 10-15 years with a very original sound about them. I can see this band standing out going forward among their contemporaries and peers. Edge Of Paradise’s sound is like a fantasy filmscore for classic hard rock and heavy metal with solid cinematic elements. For originality and a distinct sound alone…”

” Edge Of Paradise are a band that comes around once every 10-15 years with a very original sound about them.”

This above quote from that record review jumped out at me, because as  a heavy metal fan since 1978, and with the KICK*ASS*METAL stuff (heavier and faster with better riffs and more majestic and epic song-writing)in 1980 with Tygers of Pan Tang “Wild Cat” and the Import Pressing of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Blizzard of Ozz” I wanted to say Edge of Paradise is a band I probably see once in my life-time. What are the chance again of seeing 4 of California’s Best World-Class Musicians in the same band, first time was Metallica 1982/1983/1984/1985/1986, then again With Guns ‘N Roses in 1987, then Edge of Paradise formed in 2011. The high bar was set by Metallica with “Metallica” in August 1991…aka the black album, and then Guns ‘N Roses. Now future metallic artist NOW for a half a decade now Have to deal, with how BAD*ASS and KICK*ASS Edge of Paradise is. In SIMPLE HEAD-BANGER language “Edge of Paradise RULES” …!!!!!!!!!

“For originality and a distinct sound alone”

Below in Italics is the bands Biography from there official facebook presence

Formed by Monet and Bates in 2011, Edge Of Paradise debut release ‘Mask’ (Co written with Robin Mc Auley ) that came at #6 most added on national CMJ radio, right behind Machine Head and Five Finger Death Punch. An album chockfull of industrial-tinged metal coupled with soaring vocal hooks, was greatly received by critics and fans worldwide. Legendary Rock Interviews stated “Once in a while a new band comes along that not only has a unique sound of its’ own but draws upon all the things we love about metal or rock to begin with. Edge of Paradise are one of the best independent bands to come out of L.A. in some time.”

Edge Of Paradise has been gearing up for the new year with new music and big plans. The group immediately began writing to showcase the bands maturity and define the direction that was pre-empted by “Mask”. Working with legendary Michael Wagener on the mix of the songs and recording with grammy winning producer Bob Kulick (Kiss, Motorhead), the new songs will be a showcase for the staggering growth and maturity, achieved since the release of the “Mask”.

Edge Of Paradise knows how to bring it live. HardRockHaven stated, “Don’t be fooled by her angelic personality and beauty, Monet’s power and intensity will grab you by the neck and won’t let go until your head is blown off by her unearthly vocal range, hitting the notes most singers would not dare to attempt. Guitarist, Dave Bates is the epitome of sheer effortless virtuosity; this guy will make all guitar players either Idolize or hate him, as there are very few guitarists on this Earth that can shred like Bates.”

With the solid line up that consists of Margarita Monet -vocals, Dave Bates-guitars, Nick Ericson-bass, John Chominsky-drums, the band is planning a heavy touring year.

During one of their past live shows, Music Connection Magazine described the band “as a tight, well-oiled machine”. The band is now ready to bring that machine to the people!

Below is the bands individual biographies from the bands official website

Metalholic.com Stated:

NICK ERICSON *BASS

nickericsonkickassmetal2015aoty999999978653254559999

Nick Ericson was born in an old weathered barn just off the shores of a luisiana swamp. Born with large protruding canine tusks, Nick’s mother died shortly after childbirth due to major complications due to internal puncture wounds and an overdose of flintstones vitamins confused for antibiotics.

Ericson was adopted and raised by wild boars in the swampy lowlands of the American south until he was ten years old when his large canines fell out and were replaced by normal, healthy adult teeth.

nickericsonkickassmetal2015aoty96616656245623412353534534531

Two weeks after his 10th birthday Ericson Joined a traveling group of vagrant mutants playing an empty whiskey jug in a blues based folk band called “The Swamp Rats”

Arnie Mudwaddle, “The Swamp Rats” bass player at the time, immediately took a liking to Ericson and took him under his wing. That was when his musical training really began.

Three years later, when Mudwaddle was killed in a tragic accident when a corn whiskey still exploded on the back of moving tractor, Ericson was the logical choice to take his place as a full member of the band.

nickericsonkickassmetal2015aoty9776357421442453211

After joining “The Swamp Rats” in 1999 Ericson played with them exclusively until he was 19 making many valuable connections in the music industry. Tragically this relationship ended in late 2005 when “The Swamp Rats” singer, Scragglepox, drove his 1969 Coup Deville lovingly nicknamed “The Land Yacht” into a murky leechridden lake in Alabama arguing that “no car that big could possibly sink”. Being the only member who could swim, Ericson was the sole survivor.

nickerisonkiockassmetael2015aoty9554532153453451321231

For the next 6 years he traveled the country (never outside because he couldn’t get a passport for lack of a birth certificate) performing in many various bands and brothels simply to get by.

In February of 2012 Ericson picked up a side Job remodeling “Office Studios” owned by Brett Chassen and Bob Kulick, and after developing a close friendship with them decided to stay on as their assistant in the studio.

nickericsonkickassmetal2015aoty94443534154326432

Towards the end of 2012 “Edge of Paradise” came into office studios to record their single “Break Away”. By the beginning of 2013 Ericson was able to convince them to bring him on as bass player based only on his good looks and charming personality. He looks forward to a prosperous future performing with them

Arcane Dimension. A place where sonic art, ritual, poetry and provocative ideas meet hard hitting metal. With roots in thrash, gothic, and industrial as well as experimentations with symphonic and haunting world sounds based in middle eastern music this group pulls together the old and the new into a sound that defies typical metal genres. It simply must be heard to be understood.

BEYOND THE BLACK * Lost in Forever

RE-EDITION…JANUARY 13, 2017 UDR RECORDS

Beyond The Black are most certainly that.
And with a sensational new line-up ready to conquer the planet, Beyond The Black’s ascension is guaranteed.

Joining dynamic, world-class frontwoman and vocalist Jennifer Haben are Christian Hermsdörfer (guitar & backing vocals), Tobias Lodes (guitar & backing vocals), Jonas Roßner (keyboards), Stefan Herkenhoff (bass) and Kai Tschierschky (drums). This power-packed sextet will immediately dazzle audiences on Beyond The Black’s own headline tour in November, as well as in support of the mighty Scorpions during the same month in Germany and France.

Further road adventures will come when Beyond The Black join forces with Powerwolf & Epica in January & February 2017, with a US special guest slot slated in Spring 2017.

To celebrate the new band’s union, an international tour edition of the Lost In Forever album will be released worldwide on January 13th 2017, featuring four brand-new bonus tracks.

Beyond The Black have also written the title track for forthcoming German movie Die Ketzerbraut, which tells the story of a 16th century well-to-do merchant’s daughter who one night sees her life turned upside down as everything is taken from her, creating a path of treachery and revenge in renaissance era Europe. Haben enjoys a cameo appearance in this epic drama, and the title track will also be available on the domestic release of the Lost In Forever tour edition.

…if you think that’s a lot of information to sink your teeth into, disengage them fast and get ready to bite down once more in the near future, because with Beyond The Black, the news and activity is only going to increase!

Jennifer Haben and her band colleagues celebrated their live debut on stage at the legendary Wacken Open Air 2014. A few months later they were supporting the legendary SAXON on their UK tour. On February 13th 2015 the band released their debut full-length album Songs of Love and Death, which hit the German top 20 album charts, and which was produced by melodic metal maestro Sascha Paeth (Avantasia, Edguy, Epica, Kamelot, Rhapsody). You’ve probably already guessed that the album was royally received throughout Europe, with Haben establishing herself as one of the leading voices in hard rock and metal music.

Beyond The Black continued to conquer the road. They played their own headliner tour in spring and autumn 2015, and featured at several of Germany’s biggest rock & metal-festivals. Momentum is beautiful thing; Beyond The Black supported Queensrÿche in Holland and Within Temptation in Switzerland, and their incredible ascent culminated in them receiving the “Best Debut Album 2015” Metal Hammer Award.

Enough for the year? Hardly. Because between all that stuff, they were working on their second full-length album “Lost in Forever”, which was released in February 2016 (G/A/S), entered the German charts at #4 and will soon enjoy a worldwide release.

Fortified yet further with fresh energy, Beyond The Black went on their biggest tour so far in spring 2016, as a special guest on The Scorpions 50th Anniversary World Tour (do we really need to remind you they are Germany’s most successful-ever band?).
“It was a great honour for us to stand on one stage with such huge Rock N Roll icons,” enthused Haben, “we are very grateful to be celebrating 50 years of Scorpions with them.”

Yes indeed, Beyond The Black’s incredible story continued!
On May 30th and 31st 2016, they supported metal heroes Korn on some of their 2016 world tour’s European dates, and once Beyond The Black have blown people away at major festivals like With Full Force, Wacken Open Air, Bloodstock Open Air and Summerbreeze Open Air, they bring their own headline show through major cities in Germany this November.

If you thought 2015 and 2016 were Beyond The Black’s shining lights, then consider 2017 high-beams of the brightest order.

Go to this location to order.

Crucified Barbara announced the band’s demise in 2016 with the following statement:
“Hey everyone! Today we are sad to say that a long journey has come to an end. Crucified Barbara were our dream and you all, made it come true! The times we’ve had together as a band and shared on (and off) stage with you guys, leaves memories that no time can kill.
Our lives have parted and we need to move on. The last years have taken its toll on all of us and the joy of playing together got lost somewhere along the way. But we are musicians at heart and the last chord is not taken for any of us, so we will probably see each other again, under different circumstances and in other variations.
Thanks to everyone we worked with during the years who believed in us when no one else did. But without you, our fans, we wouldn’t have seen the beauty and the strength of what rock music can do. Thank you again for making our dream come true!
All the best and biggest respect!”

Edge of Paradise might be a new band, but when your debut album includes the rhythm section of bassist Tony Franklin (Blue Murder, The Firm) and drummer Gregg Bissonette (David Lee Roth Band), you know you’re already in great shape. Now add the powerhouse vocals of Margarita Monet and Dave Bates’ towering guitars and you have yourself a record essential to any fan of melodic metal.

Insatia is an American/Canadian power metal band with female vocals. Founded in 2009 and fronted by Zoë Federoff, the band has released one self produced debut album and opened for multiple international acts, including Sonata Arctica and Dark Tranquility. In 2014 Fabio D’Amore (Serenity) and his partner Ivan Moni Bidin (Starsick System, Pathosray, Last Warning) announced their positions as producers on Insatia’s upcoming sophomore release, Phoenix Aflame. Joined by producer Staffan Karlsson, known for his work with Arch Enemy, Firewind, Roxette, and many other notable acts, Fabio and Ivan spent the first part of 2015 recording the album at St. Cecilia Studios in Tucson, Arizona, USA, with engineers Steven Lee Tracy and Robbie Williamson. LA GUNS

lagunswtraciigunsphillewsseptembe17t2016pressphoto9879789786543

Frontiers Music Srl is delighted to welcome the reunion of Tracii Guns And Phil Lewis as L.A. GUNS to the label for the release of a brand new album set for release in the summer of 2017.

After a nearly 15 year break, Philip Lewis and Tracii Guns are back together for another chapter in their partnership that began in 1986, four years after Tracii formed L.A. Guns in 1982.

Their writing partnership spawned classic L.A. GUNS songs such as “Sex Action”, “Never Enough”, “Electric Gypsy”, “The Ballad Of Jayne”, and countless more in an impressive catalog of fan favorites. The last time Lewis and Guns joined forces was back in 2000 with legendary producer Andy Johns for the making of what would become “Waking The Dead” – an album that went on to receive tremendous critical acclaim and proved that their musical partnership was every bit as strong as the early days with all-killer-no-filler songs including “Don’t Look At Me That Way”, “Hellraisers Ball”, and “The Ballad”.

“I think we owe it to our fans who have stuck with us during the many ups and downs of the band’s long and checkered career,” says Lewis. “Tracii and I have written the songs to the soundtrack of many people’s lives, and I think it’s definitely worth investigating to see if the magic is still there.”

As for Guns, he’s been compiling song ideas over the last year and promises this one will be one of the band’s heaviest records, simply stating, “It’s good to be home.”

The band has already confirmed a bunch of UK shows in early 2017 and two shows at the legendary Whisky A Go-Go in Los Angeles, CA with more surprises to be announced soon!

In a time when female-fronted metal is at an all-time high in popularity but also at an all-time high for copycats and imitators, MindMaze has striven hard to forge their own sound and identity. Hailing from Allentown, Pennsylvania (United States) the band are young but have already released two successful full-length albums since formation at the beginning of 2012. In September 2015 the band was selected to go on tour as a direct support band for metal legends Saxon and Armored Saint on the heels of an independently booked and promoted tour with the Virginia-based progressive metal band Iris Divine. The band has traveled thousands of miles and performed all over the United States over the course of the past several years.
The band’s debut album Mask of Lies has been hailed by fans and critics all over the world as an outstanding piece of independent metal that is refreshing while being firmly rooted in many classic metal mainstays. With no label support, management, or outside hired promotion, the band managed to sell copies of Mask of Lies to fans in 34 of 50 United States and a total of 17 countries worldwide, selling 100% of the album’s first pressing in the first 12 months of its release.
On the heels of Mask of Lies’ success, the band released their sophomore effort Back from the Edge (2014), on October 24th, 2014 in Europe and October 28th, 2014 in USA/Canada via Inner Wound Recordings, featuring artwork by MONOWASP (Seventh Wonder, Harem Scarem, Brazen Abbot, Crash Diet, many more), Symphony X bassist Mike LePond on all tracks, and guest appearances by members of Stratovarius, Pharaoh, LORD, and Draekon. 2015 saw the band release a fan-funded EP in support of their single “Dreamwalker” which featured a selection of cover songs, acoustic versions, alternate versions, and a new original track entitled “Slave to the Cycle”. The EP is on the verge of going out of print after only 6 months on the market.
The band is currently working on their third full-length album which is due (again through Inner Wound Recordings) in early 2017. It will be the band’s first-ever concept album and will see them covering all sorts of new ground musically.

News — Three years of gigs all around the World, three years of love and friendship, three years of magic and witchcraft , three years of people who danced and headbanged at our concerts. Three years of experience and music that eventually will be printed in a physical medium. We are pleased to announce the signing with Trisol Music Group in collaboration with darkTunes for the release of our debut album. We do not want to hide our joy in being part of the same rooster of other great artists of the gothic / victorian scene that have been for us a source of inspiration as Emilie Autumn, clan of xymox, London After Midnight, SPIRITUAL FRONT official page, Kirlian Camera (official), NACHTMAHR, L’Âme Immortelle and many others. We hope to add to this scene a healthy dash of distortion and all the gears and cogs of our music. The album, recorded and mastered at Kick Recording Studio by Marco Mastrobuono (Hour Of Penance) with the great collaboration Francesco Ferrini FA (FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE) and Riccardo Studer (Stormlord) will be out in february. Many thanks to you all. Spread the Steam!

VUUR …out in August

vuurmetalgods978997897897653421

Dutch vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen is easily one of the hardest working people in music, and an artist that defies being pigeonholed by genre. She will forever be known as the vocalist for melancholic metallers The Gathering, but since striking out on her own in 2007 she has solidified a solo career, recorded and performed multiple times with Canadian metal genius Devin Townsend, launched the prog rock band The Gentle Storm, and recorded an album with Icelandic folk group Árstíðir. This has provided Anneke with a huge catalogue to choose from as a live performer, but it has also created a certain amount of confusion amongst her fans which has led to the creation of a new band, VUUR.

In early 2016, Anneke decided for the sake of clarity to narrow her musical focus, choosing to go in a folk acoustic direction as a solo artist and in a heavy progressive metal direction as a band vocalist. The name VUUR – translated from Dutch as “fire”, which can also be interpreted to mean “passion” or “drive” – was chosen as a moniker to represent Anneke’s metal side, with the idea that when fans buy a ticket with the VUUR name on it they will be getting her heavy progressive music, while an Anneke van Giersbergen show will be entirely different. Thus, in order to give VUUR’s kick-off the proper fanfare, Anneke has opted to take a break from performing in the first half of 2017.

“It’s like I’m searching for contradictions,” Anneke says of splitting her focus in two. “I want the heavy to be really heavy, and the soft acoustic stuff that I can do can be almost silent and inward. I’m trying to find those outer limits. I’m still writing and collaborating with different people, so VUUR’s style is still kind of different from The Gathering and The Gentle Storm. You could say VUUR’s music has the melancholy of The Gathering and lots of elements from The Gentle Storm, but it’s a bit darker with fewer folk elements. It’s still melodic and warm, but heavy.”

The launch and subsequent success of The Gentle Storm in 2015 raises questions as to whether Anneke really needs VUUR to present the heavy prog metal side of her personality, especially since VUUR boasts a lot of the same band members. Anneke makes the point that The Gentle Storm is a collaboration between herself and legendary Ayreon mastermind Arjen Lucassen, and it will be resurrected only when they are both able to devote time to writing and recording. She is quick to add that The Gentle Storm proved to her that fans have been waiting for her to go back to the heavy progressive style of music, which is why VUUR came to be.

Anneke comments: “The band has a different name, because the music will be slightly different from The Gentle Storm, but most band members are still involved and the music will be heavy too, so in that perspective not a lot will change, especially in the live situation. I think people will really embrace VUUR as a live band because there are nothing but stars in this band (laughs). They’re some of the best heavy metal players in Holland so I didn’t want to let them go.”

VUUR will release their full length debut in the fall of 2017 produced by Joost van den Broek, who will also be involved in some of the writing and arranging. From there the band will hit stages across Europe and beyond. Make no mistake: VUUR is a band and not a project, meaning that Anneke will focus on new material as well as the heavier side of her previous outings.

“I will always play songs from The Gathering and Devin Townsend because I love them,” she says. “I also know for a fact that people want to hear those songs, so I’ll never leave them out. I also have my absolute favourite songs from The Gentle Storm that I will keep playing. I have such a big outlet to choose from nowadays, it’s such a luxurious position to be in. We should look at VUUR as my ultimate heavy outlet. It’s not a project, which is why when we make the setlist it will include the new stuff and my favourites from my catalogue.”
