Since Lzzy Hale is one of the Greatest World-Class Vocalist of all-time in the genre of Hard Rock, it is easy for her to be a true SUPER STAR, who star burns bright, Lzzy Hale is just wise beyond her years, and this song has perfect execution.
I wanted to say I have been a The Runaway’s/ Joan Jett/ Lita Ford fan since day 1, when when i started with Heavy Metal in 1978…I got a hot tip on The Runaways from a Power Metal guy back in between my learing curve between Van Halen “Van Halen” and Tygers of Pan Tang “Wildcat” to a 1st day buyer of Ozzy Osbourne “Blizzard of Ozz” i got it the first day as a import!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me this my favorite version of this song, i say that as a Metallica fan since October 1982, “Ride the Lightning” was UNLEASHED ON PLANET METAL on July 27th, 1984, I was a first day buyer, I have every world-wide pressing of this album, and bought 30 cassettes and 30 LP’s back in July 27th, 1984 until the November 1984 pressing on Elektra Records. The first 5 Metallica albums are always in Heavy Rotation at our offices since we have been fans since The “No Life ’til Leather” demo i got my first one in October 1982, when i was in Junior High School.
Halestorm does a World-Class job on this song, and this is just one of the best cover version’s in all of hard rock/ heavy metal history since Metallica versions of “Am I Evil” and “Blitzkrieg” . I strongly encourage Halestorm to keep doing cover versions of the GOLDEN AGE OF HEAVY METAL which was from August 1st, 1981 until October 30th, 1986. I know because I was there !!!!!!!!!!!
I really love Lzzy Hale’s TIMBRE, Metallica wanted John Bush Armored Saint fame to sing on “Ride the Lighting”, and Lzzy Hale does in fact have a World-Class Timbre at the same big league, world-class level as John Bush, and James Hetfield before he injured his voice recording the bonus track of Anti-Human League “So What”.
I rank Halestorm as a personal favorite alongside Metallica, Motley Crue, and bands of the world-class tier.

There are a few bands in the hard rock / heavy metal genre, that are favorite of our at the KICK•ASS•METAL OFFICES. We collect all World-Class Music not matter the genre, were especially fond of GLAM METAL, POWER METAL, AVANT-GARDE METAL, and GOTHIC METAL. Our idea perfect band would be a cross-between Megadeath “Rust In Peace” meets WASP “WASP” with keyboards, with a female contralto vocalist.
We always had this head-space since 1986 when King Diamond’s “Fatal Portrait” sold us on the idea of KEYBOARDS in heavy metal and lets not forget the first GOTHIC METAL album was released on November of 1987, as far as supporting females in hard rock / heavy metal. One of the first since 1980, actually 1970 because I used to attend my Mothers Classical Choir Concerts..!!!
I could tell this a million times but this always goes over everyone head’s. We are part of the news cycle that is inspired by METAL MAIDENS webZine, SONIC CATHEDRAL webZine, James L McHard’s “The Future of Modern Music”, Avant-Garde Metal webZine, and Sounds of Death Magazine now called Death on Arrival Magazine, and Snakepit Heavy Metal France. 1st and Foremost Leaves’ Eyes tore the roof off of the token lounge, whoa one of the greatest concerts I have been to in my life-time.

I want to make this point out front and clear, when doing a history book on the true metal the real metal. I will give you the free advice, I am a Atrocity true fan since day 1, a Theatre of Tragedy true fan since day 1, and a Leaves’ Eyes true fan since day 1….Any Historys book on actual heavy metal history without Chapters on Atrocity/ Theatre of Tragedy/ Leaves’ Eyes is not only incomplete, but a total rip-off and I will get a refund, if anyone writer tries to omit the legendary bands from our history.
I just don’t say this or that just for shits and giggles. I have met my local fanbase KICK*ASS*METAL readership, and they really expect the best behaviors and attitudes out of me.

Now With all the write-up stuff out of the way. Everyone asks me why I WORSHIP LEAVES’ EYES SO hard and so much. It is becasuse they write some of the best fist banging/ fist pumping riffs not just in heavy metal music but all of music, and the band has a KILLER GUITAR TONE, and the band excels in the aspects of authenticity, originality, song-writing and perfect understanding what guitar hook is called a riff and a song-writing hooks. A song-writing hook is what separates the upper 99.9 percentile to the 99.0 percentile….
As far as concerts go, this concert ranks up for me of all-time with all the Bay Area thrash metal concerts I have been to from 1983—1990 that styles golden age. Metallica 1983/1984/1985/1986 – Exodus 1984/1985/1986/1987 – Testament 1987/1988/1989/1990 and Alex Skolnicks’ Last Concert @ Harpos’ before he rejoined there ranks….and many others from this awesome metal movement. Hanzel Und Gretyl, Edge of Paradise, One-Eye Doll, Metallica/WASP/ARMORED SAINT in 1985. Heavy Metal never has a bad year, nostalgia’s come and go, styles come and go. And this concert will be forever a most cherished memory. Because of the bands stage presence, charisma and talent. I thrashed and raged harder at this concert more than I have ever did @ a Slayer or a Celtic Frost Concert!!!! I think I lost 7 pounds that night….!!!!! I tried to hydrate myself, with Corona Beers with Lime, but whoa….!! My shirt was still drenched in sweet..!! Leaves’ Eyes gave 110% effort to be the most KICK*ASS most BAD*ASS band on the road these days, and how could you not want to have the metallicus maximus fun possible. I saw lots of shirts from all of the bands that played that night, and everyone was cool to each other, a real brotherhood of metallic metal maniacs with metal fanaticism and everyone was down to earth….!!!!!!!! And it was a real honor to meet Elina Siirala. And as a fan of the famous Beauty and the Beast Vocalist configuration Krull/Siirala are a awesome team. I really love her timbre, and range, a true one-of-a-kind World-Class Vocalist.
As a fan of Leaves’ Eyes….the guitar team of Thorsten Bauer/ Pete Streit is Second to None. TRUE RIFF LORDS and METALLIC virtuosos. And HEAVY METAL LEGENDS @ THE KICK*ASS*METAL offices

So all in all…AFM RECORDS get a DVD crew out before this tour ends….this is the GOLD STANDARD for KICK*ASS*METAL and the band has always been ONE OF THE GREATEST HEAVY METAL BANDS OF ALL-TIME, and seeing a LEAVES’ EYES CONCERT is of the highest possible recommendation since Leaves’ Eyes are SUPREME METALLIC ART OF THE HIGHEST ORDER !!!!!!!!!!!

The first time I seen LA GUNS was around the era of the Debut album. For Metro Detroit, circa 1987/1988. I will have to dig through my scrap books because I simply can not remember the dates since from Late 1982 until the year 1998 I went to a concert everyday of the year. Because I worked in the music business at the point in my life. So I have those scrapbooks in storage, those databases of the venues I worked @, so LA GUNS was always in my eyes a top-notch World-Class Heavy Metal Band.
Don’t forget the brilliant Glam Metal and the brilliant Power/Thrash Metal styles have the same birthdate as far as the music press covering these styles. The same birthdate for this is August 1981. MTV on one side and SPECIALIZED Heavy Metal press on the other side.
Last night I went just for fun, all fun, and nothing for KICK*ASS*METAL, just to unwind and I was not going to cover this, as a concert review of this event. But as always LA GUNS is just one of the GREATEST LIVE BANDS OF ALL-TIME, and LA GUNS are master song-writers, who know how to write a KILLER HOOK for the vocal melodies, and I always loved the GUITAR TONE. And I was really impressed with GUITAR HERO to me Michael Grant, who KICKED everyone’s ASS badly last night. People can tell me who is on a top 100 Guitarist list, but no one is going to tell me who my favorite guitarist are. Micheal Grant is a favorite guitarist of mine, totally convinced and a true believer of his KICK*ASS SKILL SET…. I hope to see a full-length album from LA GUNS with Michael Grant as the Guitarist. Man and I hope it is album of bone crunching scorchers
And this is a concert I hope to remember for the rest of my life, I have been a heavy metal fan for going on 40 years, and I expect another 20 years as a true metal fan. I also have a penchant respect for heavier hard rock and classical music. There is always new KICK*ASS original music in every genre, just you have to know where to look. I write here, but I am in the readership of 6 or 7 specialized pressed, and from there I.
The Reason I will always remember this concert is because it was around Halloween time 10/29/2016, and Kenny Kweens and Michel Grant wore METALLIC MASK For the 1st song,…!!!! Which set the mood for KILLER POSITIVE KICK*ASS VIBES !!
As a WORLD-CLASS GUITARIST Michael Grant, has an awesome stage presence, and can execute any song/solo, no matter how much he is in a peak state, of aggression and talent. Micheal Grant does have talent, and enough of his own style/sound to keep me interested as a lifelong metallic and classical music fan…!!! Usually when I go to concerts, National Rock Review covers the same events I cover, so this review will have to do until they release one, but I wrote this review just for my own posterity, since I have seen the band live a billion times, and hope this review can be used later in life on planet metal by other journalist. I will be printing out everything on this band, since I am putting a future LA GUNS very high on my wantlist…!!! Even if I add more albums to my music library I still listen to albums from the GOLDEN AGES of heavy metal, glam metal, Death Metal, and Avant Garde Metal. Which is the subject on target taste and subject matter.
Michael Grant sang Princes’ “Purple Rain”, and got it perfect and hope one day LA GUNS w/ Michael Grant can get the legal rights to cover this song, with the sound they had last night…whoa ruled beyond belief, and getting floored and mind-blown like that, is something that will forever be an indelible mark on my psyche in a KICK*ASS way because of the KILLER VIBES of LA GUNS, this song, and how much Michael Grant just ruled beyond words and beyond belief. I saved a days pay (150$ USD but I work 350 days a year s0….with zero bills)weeks ago for this concert. I ended up saving a full days pay, even though I still do my 3 times a week vinyl binges so for sure was more than happy to get the ticket, get a t-shirt, and an over did the Blue Moons a bit, but nevermind the hangover it is LA GUNS for Crying Out louds…!!!
Of course the bands was super cool during the meet and greet and it was a true honor to meet the LA HEAVY METAL LEGENDS. I never did a top 100 albums of all-time for Glam Metal/ Hair Metal/ Hard Rock. But for the style LA GUNS is a band that is on that list, you know the golden age that we cover at this publication 1980-1991 for heavy metal and 1983-1989 for extreme metal.
For the INTERNATIONAL HEAVY METAL category I expect Nervosa to be neck in neck with INDUSTRIAL METAL GODS Hanzel Und Gretyl “Satanik Germanic”
For the Norwegian HEAVY METAL category I expect Crest of Darkness (Norway) To Win The Norwegian HEAVY Metal album of the year.

NERVOSA announce with great satisfaction the plans for recording their second studio album.
The band will travel in January 2016 to the United States, where the entire process will take place.
The first stage will happen at the renowned studio The Foundation, owned by Sylvia Massy (who has worked with bands like Exodus, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, System of a Down, Tool, among others) in the city of Ashland, Oregon, where the all the drums will be recorded.
Soon after, the girls head for the city of Davis, California, to make and finalize the recordings of the guitars, bass and vocals, at Norcal Studios with producer Brendan Duffey, who besides having produced great Brazilian names earlier, already worked with renowed international as Billy Sheehan, Tim Ripper Owens and Mike Mangini.
“I look forward to have the honor to produce this band that is one of the best metal ‘power trios’ from Brazil” says Brendan.
“This is a big step, and a dream come true for the band to record this album in the US! We are happy to work with Brendan, who is a producer we appreciate a lot, and even more fulfilled to record the drums in the studio of this major producer Sylvia Massy is! ” celebrates Fernanda, bassist and vocalist.

We are a GOTHIC and GOTHIC SYMPHONIC Metal publication, but we know our metallic history since the main writers started with heavy metal in The Summer of 1980, so we know our metallic mayhem history when it comes to the Death Metal age of Heavy Metal. And the Avant-Garde age of Heavy Metal.
We cover and support all styles of music as long as the artist are “bad ass” and “kick ass”. To me what makes a band KICK*ASS besides the original definition from the brilliant 1980’s metal movement. Is when a band is World-Class, the best of the best.
And I know all bands are working hard, but I try to keep very aware of who the top SACRED 700 artist of any year, decade, quarter century and off all-time are.
As a Metal fan I do go back to music in heavy rock before Friday the 13th February 13th, 1970, when the fist heavy metal album was unleashed on Planet Metal which was Black Sabbath “Black Sabbath”. I found a October 1981 book called in a Second Pressing which happened on August 1983 called “Encyclopedia Metallica” a excellent book on hard rock by Malcolm Dome.
So the reason Draconian is in the pages of KICK*ASS*METAL is because of what I said in the first sentence. They are simply one of the greatest bands of all-time. Myself I hate all those music categories in music, but I like the description of GOTHIC METAL meets DOOM METAL, not my words or classification at all. But very cool description.
Since Doom Metal is the original metal before the metal craze, and a personal favorite of mine. As a death metal supporter since day 1 a lot of people it escapes them, that I listen to the first 5 Black Sabbath , non-stop to this day still in October/ November 2015. So I am associated with just Brutal Death Metal only, and I only listen to that genre for 25 hours a day or what ever. Gothic Metal is my favorite genre. Since Celtic Frost, and when The Gathering happened with Anneke van Giersbergen. I went in this direction, because I understand the artistic vision of this genre.
Speaking of artistic vision Draconian in my opinion is a band with there own sound and own style. I know who the band is right away when there CD’s are in my music player. Instant Recognition.
So as a TRUE fan of this band, I was psyched out of my mind when I heard they had a new CD out, called “SOVRAN” on October 30th, 2015. I had to take a trick or treat detour on October 31st, 2015, my local metal shoppe stocked it a day late….aaaarrrrggggghhhh and rrrrrooooaarrr and f…!!!! ha ha
I usually give a CD a around 250 listens to notice all the brilliant song-writing aspects and genius. And see if I can spot ALL of the song-wrting hooks from the Vocals, RIFFS, Bass and Drumming. But I only have 25 listens under my bullet belt as of the time of writing this article, and I can say without a doubt.
THIS IS A TOP 100 ALBUM OF 2015
and the FRONT RUNNER FOR GOTHIC METAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR # 1 .
Don’t forget Avatarium also from Sweden is a DOOM METAL band in the Traditional Metal genre, and that is a different story all together.
As a fan of World-Class Heavy Metal and as a GOTHIC/ SYMPHONIC METAL/ HORROR METAL specialized press. Draconian “Sovran” belongs in your METALLIC serious metal collection, and must be obtained @ all cost.
If the recording of “Sovran” in your collection is missing it is not a mistake but a serious f@ck-up.
